HOW early?

I (and some associates of mine) have already started putting up lights. I have a large outdoor display that takes months to plan and days to put up. Using the cover of Halloween, I have placed some lights where they are not to be seen and will continue throughout the month of November.

Some try to have a lighting up ceremony on the Friday following Thanksgiving (which is early this year). I will try to have lights on Dec 1st.

The weekend before or week of Thanksgiving because I have the inside of my house decorated and the tree up and the Christmas train for Thanksgiving dinner. It's so much more festive and for all the time we put into decorating, it's nice to have them up for longer than 1 or 2 weeks. Tomorrow's the first of November and I betcha within 1 or 2 weeks, I'll be seeing outside lights on houses. I do every year. Our outside lights go up the closest to Thanksgiving as my husband is off to put them up. But no later than Thanksgiving weekend. It's getting closer!!!

Once the Halloween decorations have been pulled down. Out come the Christimas decorations. Why so early? Well since I spent a bundle on all this glitter and lights. I'm gonna get my money's worth. Beside it makes the house and yard seem that much more cheery. Mind you if you have cats or small children you might not want to put them up that early otherwise you'll just be continuously putting things back up that small children or cats have knocked down. My kids are grown...and I have three cats. Yet I solved that problem. I bought one of those musical garden gnomes that sing when something comes near it. Scares the heck out of the cats and they leave the tree alone...LOL

Traditionally, my family usually starts the day after Thanksgiving. It's too much work just to decorate for a day or a week. We like to enjoy the decorations for awhile, but the day after Christmas, it all comes down!

The weekend after Thanksgiving is when we bring out the Christmas stuff. I'm not a big decorator for holidays though.

Usually a week or two before Christmas - partly because I am always so busy with church programs, school concerts etc. until just before Christmas.

**The lack of decorations before then do not minimize the importance of this holiday to me or my family. We moved 2 years ago and still have not been able to organize all our stuff. This was complicated by a deluge of boxes that came home with us a year ago when my mother-in-law died and my father-in-law wanted to clean out a lot of stuff. Maybe this year we can get the decorations out earlier. I'm sorry if my lack of time to get them up earlier offends someone who gave me a thumbs down! Early decorating to me also emphasizes the commercialism now associated with Christmas. Costco put out Christmas stuff weeks ago.

Maybe we'll be earlier this year as my husband is at home until mid - December because of heart problems. He feels fine but they won't let him drive for a while. So he cannot go to work.

the tree goes up the day after thanksgiving, but i start adding stuff about next week........... like I will deep cleaning/dusting in the bedrooms, office, etc and add a few things each week and then the 'finale' is the tree on the Friday after Thanx....... i also started already on my cards and the baking and freezing will start next week. I am about half done with my shopping, I will have everything but 'santa' done before Thanksgiving and hope to have Santa done by the 10th-ish of Dec (most years) I am done with that with several days to spare............ I wrap as I buy, Ilike to have things done ahead, I hate throwing the decs out at the last minute mailing cards on the 20th, baking till all hours, wrapping presents hlaf the night on christmas eve......... I have finally learned that a little prep makes me have alot less 'humbug' about the holidays....
