Basically we were interested in a house. The problem is the basement/cellar. There's basically nothing down there but it's being "remodeled" to have a floor, lighting and at least one good window.

But when asked about a bathroom - the answer was no for the toilet and shower. I didn't get a reason, just a message on my phone saying "uhh we can't do that".

I can settle without a second bathroom, but can it really NOT be possible to have a sink? That's the most important.

What you want can be done, but can be expensive, depending on the situation with the existing plumbing. I'd suggest calling local plumbers for bids.

Here's a sewage ejection pump that can be used if the septic lines are above basement level, for instance:

and an "upflush" toilet:

You'll also want to check with the local building code authorities... sometimes adding additional plumbing fixtures means an overhaul of the septic drain field, or upgrading other parts of the system to bring them to code or similar unplea$antne$$.

I install full bathrooms in basements all the time. No need to break open the floor, there is a pump (Sani-Flush) that fit behind the toilet and pumps everything to the main drain. Pump cost around $800.00

Any place can have a bathroom. It just needs to be plumbed and that is expensive especially if there was no rough in prior. The sellers aren't going to do that for you but you can do it after. Just call a number of plumbers and get quotes, decide where you want it to be and go from there.

If the floor is currently dirt, then they dig a trench from the main stack/drain to where you want the future bathroom. It is done all the time in older homes. Then cement the floor and your good to go. If there is already a concrete slab, cut for trench.
