The early hats for military battle dress unifoems often couldn't stand up to the washing mashine, either. I started doing the following:
1. Fill sink with lukewarm water.
2. Add a small amount of liquid laundry soap.
3. Allow caps to soak for 30-45 mins.
4. Using a *soft* brush, scrub the sweatband of the cap, adding a little soap to the brush before each cap. Scrub the underside of the bill, then the top where it's attached to the crown of the cap (these are the spots that almost always have visible sweat stains).
5. Rinse each cap individually in lukewarm to cold water, making sure to get all the soap out.
6. Shape the cap as closely as possible to either a. its original intended shape or b. the way you normally wear it.
7. Using a clip, attach the cap to a hangar and allow it to air dry overnight, checking periodically to ensure its shape.
Yes, it can be inconvenient, but believe me that you have clean caps that last a long time this way.
Good luck!

He can wash his baseball hats in a gentle cold water detergent, by hand. Rinse two or three times. Roll up a small towel and put into the cap. Fold a bath towel length-wise and wrap around the outside of the cap. Lay the whole thing on a folded towel and let air dry. After washing you can also use a cap stretcher.

Old is gold, so the old method of hand washing of the cap with a detergent soap or washing liquid or powder with a scrubber is good.
But it is good to soak it for an hour in hot water mixed with a scented soap solution and with a disinfectant like 'Dettlol' and then good brushing in cold water and dry in sunlight!
This would make the cap fine and though the work is bit long, you will be pleased to complete it, when you feel more satisfied with the dry, good smelling CAP!

Yes, you can rinse out the cap in the sink with a small amount of water. Then use Woolite a capful. Just swish it around in the water and soak for 15min.The water should be luke warm so the colors won't fade or bleed. Then you air dry. You should never put a cap in the washer because it will loose its shape during the spin cycle. If you want to use the washer make sure you take it out before it spins. You can use the dryer for about five minutes only. You will get better results if you air dry the cap.

I take the baseball caps and run them through the dishwasher on the short cycle without drying. Then I shape the caps and put the them on top of overturned round plastic gallon containers to air dry. My husband's caps always come out fine and the brim isn't damaged at all.

The cap washer is great. Spray thoroughly with Spray and Wash or similar product, put in cap washer, then into the top of the dish washer minus any dishes of course. The caps keep their shape and come out looking like new. I take mine out a little damp and leave in the plastic washer cap for a couple of hours.

The best way I have found is to put the baseball caps in the top of the dishwasher. You can use the shape forms if you want but we never did and ours comes out fine. Use a small amount dishwasher detergent, run it on the cycle with out drying time, take them out and air dry over night.

Go to Wal-Mart, or other places, get one of those plastice devices used to wash baseball caps. It is a 2-part contraption; wash the cap by hand, using soap and a scrub brush as needed, place cap inside contraption, close it (cap fits between 2 parts shaped like the baseball cap...mine is white plastic), hang up to dry.
Works great!
