He's not the first successful person to turn his back on Britain and I doubt he'll be the last. I just wish he'd be honest about his reasons for leaving

I think that's a bit harsh...you don't support pple bcoz they pay tax...? Many stars ...Tv and sports live on the Isle of Man etc for tax reasons..?

If you had his money and stayed to pay taxes..it wouldn't be long till you were broke and pple on this same forum would be laughing and passing judgement.

If you think the Nhs is for you and me ..you must live in a place with clean hospitals, with doctors and nurses who are paid well and happy to be there, and have an NHS dentist. Can we all move there too...

His taxes and anyone else's are not for me..my local hospital is a tip, I can't get a dentist...as for the education system...have you seen the kids these days...never mind what the education system is doing and not doing for boys of colour like Lewis...?

I do not expect anyone to pay taxes so I can use the NHS...this is not a socialist country...you remind me of the lottery winners that go bankrupt after a few yrs bcoz they don't know how to manage money..

When I make just half the money Lewis does I would leave too..I am not willing to pay 40 - 50% tax to keep people like you happy...or to support an NHS that is a mess, a education system that does not work...besides his father has paid enough taxes...what about lottery winners were on the dole and then move away once they have won..should they be forced to give back too?

Get with the times, this is not communist Britain...he has probably paid more tax this year alone than most adults will for the next 5yrs due to his high earnings..

by the way I'd like to know where you live where the NHS and education is so brilliant..I want to move...

Who the hell gets free education or health care in the UK? I do believe that when I was a kid at school my parents were paying tax that funded my education and health care and when I was living in the UK and working for 20 years was also paying tax that funded these things.

Britain is a great country that has been ruined by recent government's who nanny the populace and stealth tax to the point of ridiculousness. I miss the place, the people and the culture but on balance I could not stand the way it is run so got out when I could and quite frankly Lewis Hamilton can not be blamed for doing so either. I have no opinion of the guy either way as I find F1 dull in the main but he has people talking, which can only be good for a sport that needs all the help it can get.

Why pick on him anyway? There are loads of celebs who leave the UK and go to a place where they are not exploited by government and hounded by media.
I suspect that large chip on your shoulder is distorting your point of view.

Why choose Hamilton as your example? He's not the first and he won't be the last to do what he's doing. I don't blame him for moving abroad. He's hounded by the media, judged by the likes of people on this web site and the Government wants a huge percentage of his income. What he's going shows he has brains, as for a free education and NHS treatment, from what I've read his father worked, two jobs most of the time, so how does that make him a greedy ungrateful man?

When I lived in U.K. I paid taxes like any other person, I had no children at school, my parents paid for my education, so why didn't I, or they, pay a reduced amount of taxes? None of my family have ever been eligble for state benefits because we have all been self employed, parents, grandparents etc. we have no-one to call on if we were sick, didn't have work. I still have to work a minimum 60 hour week to earn a 'normal' wage, but I don't come on this web site bemoaning my lot in life or criticising others, when I know nothing of their personal life or circumstances.

I think this is a case of the green eyed monster! Before you judge him look at your own life, your own family, how much tax you all pay and how much you get back in return.

You could be talking about all the other drivers on the grid to be frank. Lest we forget Jenson's famed Playboy showboat or David's hotel in Monte Carlo. .
Its predictable and quite right that he leaves these shores, true he could've followed Damon Hill and gone to Ireland or Nigel Mansell and gone to Isle of Man, staying relatively 'local'.
But hey, what stupid 22 year old kid would want to be in the midst of a sun drenched tax haven where the press mind their own business and you can go shopping for condoms without it being headline news. Yes, i'm sure he'd rather live in England, life like a footballer- all lurid roasting stories and vile tart girlfriends.

He's rich, its his money he earns it in a career when he could die at any given weekend. Contributions to the NHS would be pretty low on the list when i'm lifting up a victory trophy!

Our country is not called "RIP OFF BRITAIN" for nothing !!

So what if Lewis is leaving because of tax, what would you do if you were earning his kind of income and paying 50/60% of it to the goverment to throw away on £82 million in MP's expenses for the year .(in the news latley)
If I had that kind of income I'd be off aswell.

Maybe you should have done a little research before going on about "free education and NHS treatment" ,as I do belive his farther had 2 jobs on the go to give his son an opputunity to race when he was younger.

As for the media which is Lewis' main reason for going to Switzerland,I say how would you feel if everytime you went for a meal /night out or even to the crapper and had a camera stuffed in your face day in day out.
Good on you Lewis enjoy it !!

Hah! I think the British public needs to suck it up & get over Lewis Hamilton moving abroad. He is one of your most successful individual sporting talents in a long while & deserves your support, not harassment. Where Lewis chooses to live is his business, noone elses. Certainly it is a bit rich (pun intended!) to call him greedy & ungrateful on the basis that he is relocating overseas. Focus on the positive- wealthy Lewis is not likely to become reliant on the NHS or British government for any financial assistance in the future & deserves to enjoy his life wherever he chooses to do so.

Just my 2 cents. Its nothing to do about pride etc. Its about logic and being rationale.

If Lewis earns 10 million next year;
In the UK he will have take home of 6 million
In Switzerland he will have take home of 9 million.

How many days can he spend in the UK if he is a swiss citizen? 90 days. So no doubt he will be in the UK MORE than he will be in Switzerland.
How many days is Lewis expected to be in England for 2007? 100 days.

He is never at "home", it doesn't matter at all.

10 days cost him 3 million, think about it, what do you do?

How much of his salary is actually 'English' money anyway ? If you were being paid in Euros or American Dollars would you want to pay tax on it? And how many foreigners are getting free stuff here without paying tax - EVER ? The man has worked hard to get where he is today and he deserves to be able to live where he wants and spend his money as he sees fit without being interrogated about it.

I don`t know his tax details, but I would guess he`s more than paid his way to date. Why pay into a rubbish education system which Labour has wasted an extra £500m on and a health service that billions have been wasted on? I`m out of this country ASAP. Good luck to him.

It's probably the media chasing him thats drove him away, however it would be a nice gesture if your comments are true to pay back something for all his freebies if that is the case.

I wish him luck in the next few years but its not a good advert for the UK nor the UK media if our rising stars all leave as soon as they become succesfull.

I dont include myself in this but if WE the UK public were not so obsessed with "celebrity" this would not have happened as the media would leave people like Lewis alone.
