"3 guilty of mass murder in Madrid attack"

Spain's National Court convicted the three main suspects in the Madrid commuter train bombings of mass murder Wednesday and sentenced them to tens of thousands of years in prison for Europe's worst Islamic terror attack.

Under Spanish law, the most they will spend in jail is 40 years. Spain has no death penalty or life imprisonment.

40 years for planning and carrying out the murder of 200 people is pathetic.

I think you forgot the term consecutive sentencing. While they may not serve more than 40 years per conviction they will never again see the light of day.

40 years is close enough to a life sentence for me, but they should get death for the lives the bombings took.

Spain has far more problems than that.

That seems like a life sentence and probably the death penalty when they run into a relative of someone who was killed.

Do you want to execute an Islamic terrorist? I think it's a mistake. They view it as martyrdom.

When Zacarias Moussaoui found out that he would not be executed, but would serve the rest of his life in a supermax prison, he was horrified.

He has even sent a letter to the Judge, asking for a new trial, and he wants execution to be on the table.

Spain pulled out of Iraq because they got attacked at a train station. What do you expect from a country with no spine?

No life in prison, no death penalty = exploding trains
