Should it be regulated and taxed like tobacco and alcohol for the good of the country?

It would sure put alot of petty drug dealers out of business and take a bite on the number of nonviolent Americans going to prison.

Drugs are bad M'kay, but empting our prisons of non violent drug offenders would make room for those who truely belong there.

I am a staunch Conservative, so of course I do not want weed legalized.

Oh wait.... that's not quite true.

Here is my new and improved position, using the insight I've gained from moving to Europe: here, drug and alcohol abuse levels are much, much lower than in the U.S. The reason, I am convinced, is because alcohol and drugs are not seen so much like "forbidden fruit", that makes them even more desirable.

I just had a Halloween party here, and I hired a professional bartender. Guess how many people drank themselves blind on free booze? Zero. None. Everyone could drink (a bunch of the guests were in college, but they just drank socially, not to the point of excess).

Imagine in the U.S. My bar bill would have been astronomical. Here, liquor is no big thing because any kid who wants to try alcohol can get it fairly easily. If you are 15 and you walk into a bar for a beer, you will almost never be refused.

The result? Fewer people are obsessed with alcohol.

Drugs are far less of a problem here too because they don't have some "coolness" factor associated with them. People won't blink an eye if someone is smoking pot, but if you are abusing drugs, they will consider you a loser, so drugs don't make you cool here.

However, the U.S. needs to change it's position on all these things. If it just changes the law on weed, you'll have millions of new users the next day. We need to change the whole social environment that makes illicit sex, drugs, and booze such an attractive turn on.

It should be treated like any other controlled substance. Available by perscription from a pharmacy only for those who need it medically. The weed would be best quality and the growers would meet specific government standards of quality and safety.

yea.....legalize grass. Its much safer than alcohol...with alcohol i dont stop til i pass out and then wake up 12 hours later with a huge hangover. Grass is much nicer...come down and just get alittle tired. Alcohol has caused many of problems

Yes it should. Mostly because of the many uses for hemp which are far superior to the things that are currently being used for those things, and the political reasons why it was made illegal in the first place. *sm*

maybe
some kids have an easier time getting weed than booze.
and I don't think a lot more people would start smoking grass just because it's legal.

but.. for some reason it just seems like a bad idea.

Yes, for medicinal reasons, but it never will be.
The Government probably makes more money
on it just the way it is.

Probably should be but I'm not sure it would be "for the good of the country"

Don't we have enough drunk drivers killing others?

Do we really need stoners on the road?
