Often it's a tight fit so i use motor oil on the hose end and slide it over the pipe. i replace 5/8 heater hose, used oil inside and crescent wrench handle stuck inside to widen it.
My question is will the rubber be affected by the oil? Will the rubber break down quicker because of the oil i used to slip it on?

I added oil to tip of finger and swabbed the inside of the hose. I'll use silicon spray next time. Why didn't I think of that.
Thanks

Oil will deteriorate the rubber and will also contaminate the antifreeze. Buy a can of Silicone spray at the auto parts store. It's a good rubber lube. Also works on door locks, door gaskets other rubber items to extend their life and prevent squeaking.

No But what I use is a little anti-seize. Sounds like you may need to use a little sand paper to clean the tubes first, the wrench will damage the hoses!

Big maybe, I doubt it, only time will tell. You would of been better to use WD40, CRC556, silicone spray, AT or PS fluid. A little bit on the tip of your finger is all that needed to be applied.

I always use a fingerful of wheel bearing grease to get stubborn hoses on, it works great and have never had a problem of premature wear of the hoses.

Use some Armor All. Its slick and actually good for rubber.
