Integers are numbers that can be written without a fractional or decimal component.

½ is not an integer because it is a fraction
3.71 is not an integer because it is a decimal
pi is not an integer because it is irrational
√3 is not an integer because it is irrational

1.1 is not an integer because it has a decimal and is not a whole, whether positive or negative, number

-0.5432 is not an integer because it is not a whole number, positive or negative, but has a fractional part.


Just take a number, stick on a decimal point, then throw anywhere from 1 to however many digits after the decimal, then vola! You got a non-integer! For added effect, you can be brave and stick on a negative sign.

1/2, 4.00032, 2.5, Pi, and -9.90 are examples of numbers that are not integers. The term of a integers is whole number or negative whole numbers. So numbers like 43434235, 28, 2, 0, -28, and -3030 are integers because they are whole numbers.
