If you look at it, there's no such thing as a stupid person. Most people perceived to be dumb usually 1.)pretend to be (to trick others) or 2.)are actually misunderstood because of their thought process.

Any thoughts on this? Anyone agree?

I concur! I do believe in ignorance, though. Calling someone "dumb" or "stupid" is insignificant name calling based on your definition, pointless really. What an observation...

Well, yes there are. There are people who are not as smart as others, since intelligence varies.

Uh, do you think there really are people who constantly pretend to be dumb, just to trick people? I doubt that. A few con artists, maybe.

Yes, there are a lot of people who are smart in some ways, but if it isn't verbally smart, other people don't realize it. Or if the way they think is unusual, others may think them stupid when they aren't. (I sometimes get this, and I'm not anywhere close to stupid. Most people, when confronted with a new idea immediately dismiss it as stupid.)

But to conclude that there's no such thing seems unjustified by evidence.

There are people who are simply slow on the up-take. Just as there are people who are unusually short or tall, or whatever.

People's intelligence varies.

Stupidity is merely being unable to make connections between various premises or phenomena in order to extrapolate an opinion or course of action from them. Your second category wrongly implies that thought processes aren't stupid if misunderstood, but just as misunderstanding can be a product of stupidity, misunderstanding stupidity doesn't make stupidity any less stupid.

I agree that there are people who pretend to be dumb because people expected them to be so. I know some blond girls that are really smart, but they act really stupid. However, there are people out there that is really dumb. That means that they do not have a though process or if they do have one it is completely out of whack!

I don't think there are stupid people. I think there are people who do stupid things. I mean the definition of stupid is lacking ordinary quickness and keenness of mind according to the dictionary. Now many people interpret stupid into many other things. Stupid can mean you're not smart, you can't comprehend, you're ignorant. And that is another thing. Ignorant means lack of knowledge. People have changed it to mean saying something back to somebody. Well here is my opinion.

I would like to believe you since I'm someone with "odd" thought processes (or at least, I use intutive thought processes not logical ones)...

But I'm sorry, I've just met way too many people in my life who are just not very intelligent to not believe in Stupid people.

I think you're probably right, but I have to admit that I'm often impatient with people whose thought processes I don't understand.
