Most ions are just an atom plus or minus one electron, so mainly they still behave like atoms. Dissolve salt in water and it becomes an ionic solution. They're no longer locked in a crystal lattice, but are free to migrate around their solvent. You'll get a pretty good idea about this in chemistry. A plasma is a whole branch of physics all by itself.

i dont think theyd start `bumpin uglies` unless the atoms were completely stripped of their electrons.
