I am the only one who can take my kids trick or treating and I want to leave candy in a pot by the front door.......what should the sign say that lets people know NOT to take more than their share?

if you believe that will work then you're an optomist in the extreme....

I had a neighbour in your position.....he put out a big bowl of candy & a 'take one' sign.

I watched him get wiped out in less than 5 minutes...by two trick-or-treaters lol.

Better yet, how about an I.O.U sign?

"To All Trick ot Treaters...I am unavailable. Come Back on ________ and you will get your Halloween candy "

There is no way that will work. You will always have good, honest people, who will take only the one piece, but let's say that you have a bunch of teens who think it would be funny to dump the entire bowl into their bags. Then, what? The ones for which the candy was intended will leave with nothing. What you might do, is take your kids out, then come home early enough to treat others. It's very hard for parents on Halloween. We are all faced with the stay-at-home dilemma, or take the kids around. Just do what you can. It'll be okay.

If you want to be in control of how much they take, you need to be handing it to them. If you put out the candy in a large pot without supervision, there will always be people (children and adults) who will take all they want.

You can try the sign and it might get some to be a little less greedy but you will still have some attack it like pirates after treasure.

Lol...
Kidding right?
If theres a crap load of candy
and no one there to moniter it..
its gonna be gone in less than 5 mintues.

You could try putting some in plastic bags
and spreading it all around your yard, and making them kinda look for it...

Hope this helped!
Happy Halloween!! =]

Have it say something that will make them think twice and feel guilty otherwise. Maybe something like "Roses are red and Violets are blue, You can't see me, but I can see you! Please only take one!" Maybe they'll think that you are watching even though you are not at your front door handing out the candy. Hopefully their parents or whomever is accompanying them will make sure they are respectful. Happy Halloween!

For once in my life I can advocate the "sharing philosophy" of communism, being: Take one, pass it around! But you might get a greedy capitalist pig who comes along and takes the loot for himself. Oy vey!

You're best off not giving candy. Don't worry. The kids won't starve.

i wouldnt leave any candy because there will always be a untrustworthy kid out there, just let your kids have the candy.

Doesn't matter. The first kid that comes by is just going to dump the whole bowl into his sack...it's unavoidable. You can't go on the honor system with children...they're 'monsters'...especially on Halloween
