I'd like to find out where my salary falls compared to other Americans, and-- this could also be very interesting-- compared to world salaries.

Every once in a while you hear factiods like, (this is a made up stat) "The richest 1% of Americans hold 25% of the money in this country."

I'm pretty certain that I'm not in the top 1%, but I'd like to know how far I am from reaching the top 50%.

The top 1% now gets 21% of all the income and the bottom half get about 12%. For a graph of the bottom 98% of household incomes see

Many if not most if the households in the upper half have 2 incomes, the average salary is $37000 a year which is much less than the average household income.

You won't find one because distribution of income isn't normally distrubted, it's skewed, meaning the few people that have the highest amount of wealth stretch it to the right. Try the Bureau of Labor Statistics @ www.bls.gov

monster.com has some data but uses non - parametric statistics.

BLS.gov would be a good place to look too.
