I've heard GE makes these. Do they work? Are there studies? What are they, specifically? Can I buy them at Home Depot?

That is a very interesting question. A star for it, as light makes a significant difference in how we view the world, and it affects our emotions every day.

In standard base/incandescent lamps you can get a daylight version, but you may have to hunt for it. The ones called growth or garden lamps may also do.

The light spectrum emitted from standard bulbs is usually better than the most common fluorescents, which are almost invariably the "cool white" version, and happen to be the cheapest.

In fluorescent lamps there is a "daylight" or "dayliner" tube, but there is also a Warm White one.

Either one may do the job, but you might find the Warm White better than daylight, for what you want it to do.

The Warm White lamp emits more red and is MUCH easier on your eyes and better for your emotional health (and happiness) than the standard cool white tube.

I don't know about a specific light bulb, but you can buy lamps that do this. It may be a specialty item, not the usual Home Depot fare. Search for Seasonal Affective Disorder and Lamp

Yes, the light bulbs thing is nuts... bad ones or cheap generic ones make a room appear from the fifties, and theres some that are great for this.. Colors are vibrant and almost better than natural light. They are called REVEAL. I think G.E. makes them. They look sort of light blueish or light purpleish. You would love them.
