Money For Nothing ~ Dire Straits
And I have to agree with 'Have A Cigar' and 'Welcome to the Machine' {I *love* that album!}
The Stevie Nicks song 'Greta' was apparently about the problems she had with her record label. After releasing the Street Angel album she left Atlantic Records and joined Warner Reprise.
Don't know if that counts?
Strange moment :~
I was about to say 'Hats Off to (Roy) Harper ~ Led Zeppelin, but I just looked that up and saw it's about a fellow musician.
What I didn't remember was, Roy Harper sang the lead vocal on 'Have A Cigar'!

Paint a Vulgar Picture - The Smiths
A fantastic take on the opportunity to cash in on an artist's death.
"At the record company meeting
On their hands a dead star
And, ooh, the plans that they weave
And, ooh, the sickening greed"
"Reissue! Repackage! Repackage!
Reevaluate the songs
Double pack with a photograph
Extra track (with a tacky badge)"

I don't listen to it that often, but I like the song Sell Out by Reel Big Fish. I think it does a good job depicting the industry.
"so I signed on to the record company,
they say they're gonna give me lot's of money,
if I play what they want you to hear
they tell me it's cool, and I sure believe it..."

"Pull My Strings" by the Dead Kennedys
I'm tired of self respect
I can't afford a car
I wanna be a prefab superstar
I wanna be a tool,
don't need no soul
Wanna make big money
playing rock and roll
I'll make my music boring
I'll play my music slow
I ain't no artist, I'm a business man
No ideas of my own
I won't offend
or rock the boat
Just sex and drugs
and rock and roll
(And here we go..)
Drool, drool, drool, drool, drool, drool
My Payola!
Drool, drool, drool, drool, drool, drool
My Payola!
You'll pay ten bucks to see me
on a fifteen foot high stage
Fatass bouncers kick the ****
out of kids who try to dance
If my friends say
I've lost my guts
I'll laugh and say
"That's rock and roll!"
(But there's just one problem:)
Is my cock big enough
Is my brain small enough
For you to make me a star
Give me a toot, I'll sell you my soul
Pull my strings and I'll go far
Give me a toot, I'll sell you my soul
Pull my strings and I'll go far
And when I'm rich
and meet Bob Hope
we'll shoot some golf
and shoot some dope
Is my cock big enough?
Is my brain small enough?
For you to make me a star
Give me a toot, I'll sell you my soul
Pull my strings and I'll go far
.....
Is my cock big enough?
Is my brain small enough?
For you to make me a star
Is my cock big enough?
Is my brain small enough?
For you to make me a star
(Shut up and dance everybody)
Is my cock big enough?
Is my brain small enough?
For you to make me a star

Hi
I'm your video DJ
I always talk like I'm wigged out on quaaludes
I wear a satin baseball jacket everywhere I go
My job is to help destroy
What's left of your imagination
By feeding you endless doses
Of sugar-coated mindless garbage
So don't create
Be sedate
Be a vegetable at home
And thwack on that dial
If we have our way even you will believe
This is the future of rock and roll
How far will you go
How low will you stoop
To tranquilize our minds with your sugar-coated swill
You've turned rock and roll rebellion
Into Pat Boone sedation
Making sure nothing's left to the imagination
M.T.V. Get off the
M.T.V. Get off the
M.T.V. Get off the air
Get off the air
See the latest rejects from the muppet show
Wag their **** and their *****
As they lip-synch on screen
There's something I don't like
About a band who always smiles
Another tax write-off
For some schmuck who doesn't care
M.T.V. Get off the air
And so it was
Our beloved corporate gods
Claimed they created rock video
Allowing it to sink as low in one year
As commercial TV has in 25
"It's the new frontier," they say
It's wide open, anything can happen
But you've got a lot of nerve
To call yourself a pioneer
When you're too god-damn conservative
To take real chances.
Tin-eared
Graph-paper brained accountants
Instead of music fans
Call all the shots at giant record companies now
The lowest common denominator rules
Forget honesty
Forget creativity
The dumbest buy the mostest
That's the name of the game
But sales are slumping
And no one will say why
Could it be they put out one too many lousy records?!?
M.T.V.-Get off the air!
