to cover that UNinsured vet?

I laugh...you are incorrect to assume "all" vets have health care. Back to school for you.

pdooma - the government also handles Medicare and does a great job at it!

Dave - the study said that Bush cut off access to veterans making more than $30 - 35,000 annually. They're too poor to afford private coverage but not poor enought to qualify. What a kick in the teeth for their military service. Compassionate conservative, my eye!

The untold story

I assume you are referring to the Harvard study.

If you READ the study, you will see 1 in 8 does not have VA coverage because they MAKE TOO MUCH MONEY.

Why should the VA pay health care if a veteran makes a ton of money and can afford it other wise?

Why should the VA pay health care bills for problems that are not service connected?

I wish you guys would read your references instead of pinging off the headlines.

Universal Health Care = Less Health Care at Greater Cost.

Check it out - it's the one FACT about socialized medicine that the socialists wish that you wouldn't talk about.

Oh, and by the way, breast cancer outcomes are substantially worse in all of the Western socialized medicine countries that they are in the US - and, yes, that includes the uninsured in the US, too.

I used breast cancer as an example 'cause it's been in the news for the last 20 years. The same is true of all the major life-threatening diseases - the outcomes are substantially worse in England, France, Canada, Germany, etc. than they are in the US.

So, I continue to ask, WHY is it that certain politicians keep pushing socialized medicine if it results in poorer quality health care for the population as a whole? It couldn't be that old "something for nothing" pitch that is the Dems' bread-and-butter argument as to why you should vote for them, could it?

News Flash...the VA will provide health care to a veteran based on financial need. Disabled vets and POWs pretty much do not have to pass any income test at all.

Memo to: mrswheedler. Read this and get educated...I work with vets everyday.

Veterans deserve free heathcare as do poor families.

If you research universal healthcare in countries that have it, you will discover long lines for surgery and many leaving and going to other countries who provide better healthcare.

Remember, you will always get what you pay for. Check out a free clinic here in the US sometime and look at the long lines.

I have no problem providing vets with health care...they have earned that right without question. However, they did not fight for socialized health care for the masses...it is unconstitutional.

Update:

Medicare is a joke. Just wait until you have to use it. I know several people on it now and they hate it!

Doesn't the fact that the government runs the VA say anything about why them running the rest of healthcare is bad?

No. They were paid, probably got a good signing bonus, possibly the GI bill, and unless they are injured, have the ability to earn a living and pay for their own insurance. Uninsured vets is a poor reason to socialize medicine.

Because we don't need another mis-managed government program. Clean up the V.A. and this problem goes away.

If a veteran lacks owning a home, why shouldn't we buy homes for everybody. Do you follow the illogic?
