I have 3 black skirts in my 30 gallon tank and they are getting huge, I mean they have really grown since I got them 6 months ago. I am going to get another aquarium next month and would like to get a 50 or more. ( it is an addictive, fun hobby)
In the new tank I would like2 of each gourami's, mollies, rainbow fish and cherry barbs. If these tetras keep growing would it be ok to move them into the bigger tank with the above fish I mentioned or would those fish be to aggressive. I have noticed that the bigger the black skirts get, they seem to be a little bolder and do chase the smaller fish.

* You will do fine with the Backskirts and the other fish you plan on putting in your 55 ! You sure are right about the hobby being addictive* I topped out at 13 aquariums! I have condensed down to nine of them currently plus an isolation tank! Have fun*

It would be fine to move them. Also consider getting a few more black skirts as these are schooling fish and are happier in groups of 5+. That will cut down on their chasing the other fish.

I would also recommend a third rainbowfish if you have the room. You get the best colors from the males when they have to compete for a female's attention (and they aren't that aggressive in their "competition, they try to outperform each other with their colors), so get 2 males and one female.

Gouramis can be territorial if you have two males, so try a male and female here.

If you get molleis, remember how quickly and easily these can reproduce. You other fish may eat the fry, but if you don't want to bother with fry at all, you can get two males. They may be a little territorial and pick on each other, but they can live together in a 50-55 gallon. And they won't overpopulate your tank. If you get females, they will probably already be pregnant from males at the store, and they can store sperm and give birth about once a month for the next 6 months.

I agree, it's an addicting hobby. I have several of both freshwater and saltwater tanks, and I'd love to set up even more!

Black skirts are decent fish, and should do fine with the gouramis and the mollies, although I'm a bit worried about them WITH the mollies. Mollies are fin nippers, and that can really bother these type of tetra since they have a decent amount of finnage. The black skirts also shouldn't get too too big, for they usually are about 2-3 inches.

black shirts will get large, my largest being 4-5 inches in body length and long fins.

They are community fishes, so you are just fine stocking all of those fish types together.

Consider a 55 gallon, a very standard size and very economical.

You alittle understocked and consider getting a bottom fish like a school of cory catfish. They will take care of the bottom level.
