It is called a stoved coccis or tail bone. It is called S-1 I think and it takes a while for it to heal, but it will. Ask your doctor what some therapy might be that would work to make it heal quicker and get the tenderness to to go away. I did mine sky diving and jumping again did not help.

I injured mine when i was a kid, and the problem flared up off and on for several years and eventually disappeared entirely. After 5 months, you should not be feeling sharp pain - at least not all the time. If the pain is not affecting your usual activities, then you can wait a couple more months to see what happens, but if its affecting your activities, it would be a good idea to get an MRI. X-rays only show if the bone was fractured, which rarely occurs, so they don't do much good for diagnosing coccygeal pain. Most injuries of the coccyx affect ligaments or nerve tissues.

It took about six months for mine to stop hurting . . . make sure you aren't aggravating it and it should be fine.

Also, you may want to take a couple of ibuprofen each day--keeps the swelling down.
