MOHANDAS KARAMCHAND GANDHI, was born, on 2 October, 1869, in a place called "PORBANDAR", in India. At the tender age of 13, Mohandas was MARRIED, - according to TRADITION, - to KASTURBA, who was almost, exactly, the same age! The young pair had NO RIGHT, to REFUSE to DO so, either, - because their PARENTS arranged the marriage.

Gandhi came to the United Kingdom, - where, - on his arrival in LONDON, - he began to study LAW, - returning to his native land, in 1891, - to set up a legal practice. Two years later, - by then, he was the father of no fewer than FOUR children, - he took up an offer of a year's legal work, in SOUTH AFRICA, - but STAYED, there, for no less than TWENTY-ONE years, in all, - fighting, by LEGAL means, the ABUSES of ALL Indians, - NOT, just, HIMSELF.

He developed his own "STYLE", of what MIGHT be seen, as "ACTION, THROUGH INACTION", called, - in HIS Native language, - "SATYAGRAHA".

He led the campaign, for India's INDEPENDENCE, from the BRITISH.

On numerous occasions, - having, by THAT time, acquired the "EPITHET", "MAHATMA", (meaning "GREAT SOUL"), - Gandhi-ji used his own BODY, to PROTEST his "CAUSE", through FASTING. He was seeking a "UNITED" India, - free, of the British "RAJ", - and, - seveal times, came back, from the very BRINK of DEATH, - CAUSED by his fasts, - the LAST of which, lasted for FIVE DAYS, - and succeeded, in gaining PEACE, between the warring factions.

Some, though, DISLIKED his policies, and, - TWELVE DAYS, after his final "FAST" ended, - Mohandas K. Gandhi, - known, to MILLIONS, as "MAHATMA", - was DEAD, - SHOT, three times, by a Hindu FANATIC, - named as NATHURAM GODSE, - who OPPOSED his non-violent methods.

Godse died, - on the end of a ROPE, - having been TRIED and CONVICTED, of the MURDER, in 1949.
