The foreparts of the Eagle, inc. the head, torso, wings, and front talons, and the hindquarters of a Lion, incuding the rear paws, haunches, and tail. An amalgamation of the two Kings - one of Air, and one of the Jungle - which bespeaks the Far Eastern origin of the Gryphon, possibly Persia or India. Some mythologies give it the tail of a serpent, but I do not like that at all. As a matter of fact, just look to the left on my avatar - which currently is my heraldic device of a Gryphon sinister segreant vert on a platelet argent, charged on a field of gyronny argent and sable, which is to say, a green Gryphon facing left (the gryphon's left) in an alert posture on a round silver disk upon a field of gyronny (pie slices) silver and black. The whole effect is of a green Gryphon outlined against a rising full moon.
