to gain votes? Do you think this is a wise strategy? Do you believe it's working? Are you confident that the candidates who are promising that they will end the war in Iraq will come through time efficiently? I will tell you want I think later on.

As I watched the debate last night, I was surprised at how little mention was made of Iraq. Only the occasional shot at Bush for "the War", but nobody discussing what they would do, specifically.
I think the Dem candidates prefer not to bring it up too much, since someone might call them on their own plan for Iraq. Hillary seems a bit slippery on the subject. They seem to want to end the war, but many are noncommittal on when 100% of our troops will be out of Iraq.
Obama and Dodd would end it and pull out at least the vast majority of the troops by late 2009. With the others, I'm not so certain what they'd actually do.
It seems to me that both parties are promoting the candidate that they think has the best chance of winning, primarily due to name recognition and campaign financing, regardless of their positions.
Republican conservatives must be holding their noses over "9/11 Giuliani" and most Dem voters likewise with Hillary. They're not the best candidates that these two parties have to offer.

They think politics first, that's unfortunately their first priority.
I do think most of the people saying they want to bring the troops home actually mean it, there might be some cynics but the majority believes it. There's just one thing they want more and that's staying in power or gaining power.
Some might not even be aware of this themselves and honestly believe the same stories they tell the people. Human psychology is very complex and the impact on politics is often underestimated

I don't believe any candidate except maybe Ron Paul and Mr. Richardson would withdraw the troops as they say . As for the strategy , its depends some gullible people might believe that but most understand its a lie .

No. Ron Paul who is a Republican presidential candidate is against the war in Iraq and has been from the beginning.

Dennis Kucinich all the way! I hope.

Politicians will be politicians, wo yes they are using it, just like the Reps. use fear as a political tool...however, despite myself being a democrat, i dont think we will do much more than we are doing now, because our party has not shown much of a backbone, we pretty much rollover anytime someone attacks us, so if the democrats would just get a backbone and learn to play hardball, they could use it to their advantage.

The new Democrats got their political power from the people in order to STOP THE WAR.

They are not using a tool, THEY ARE THE TOOL (of the majority of American voters who want to end the war).

NO. The war is an unmitigated disaster and once again Democrats will end up having to clean up the mess that the GOP created.

There is no silver lining to this one.

Yes they are. Just as the Republicans are as well.

They do not care about the nation, the soldiers, or others. They only care about getting and staying elected.
