In regards to the Trans-Atlantic slave trade of African Americans in the US the slave trade was ended by Thomas Jefferson in 1807 when he signed a bill that concluded the trade as of Jan 1, 1808.
However, at that point it was already too late because the slave population in the US was large enough to be self sustaining and did not require the influx of new slaves to maintain a steady population.

The Abolitionist
The Underground Railroad may be defined as the organized effort to assist runaway slaves in their dash for freedom. Since slipping away from one's master was a hazardous step, most runaways required help. The underground railroad was the popular name for the process of receiving these fugitives, hiding them overnight and then conducting them to the next station en route to freedom.

UNFORTUNATELY THE SLAVE TRADE HAS NOT ENDED IT WILL ONLY FINISH WHEN MEN CHANGE THEIR VIEWS TOWARDS WOMEN, CHILDREN AND PROFIT AND WHEN SOCIETY AS A WHOLE CHANGE THEIR ATTITUDE REGARDING GETTING A BARGAIN IN ANY SHOPPING MALL, FOR EXAMPLE: CHEAP CLOTHING FOR THE WEST MEANS SLAVERY IN THE DEVELOPING COUNTRIES
