Very well-said. I agree. Why should we all pay for theirs when there is plenty of us who can't afford our own? It makes no sense at all. They have it for life. They have no worries. If they get sick (seriously) then they will be taken care of at our expense. They won't lose everything they've worked towards.
It makes me sick to think someone fighting cancer has the additional worry of losing health insurance and everything. It's not right. Any one of us could be there. That is just wrong.
They won't be receiving the best care either.
All of these elected officials can afford to pay for their own care. They are all millionaires plus.

Do you really believe the average American doesn't have health coverage? Do you know that the statistics they use to say how many people don't have health coverage counts everyone that didn't have health coverage for any time whatsoever during the year. This includes everyone that changed jobs or health insurance plans because for that brief microsecond while the paperwork was going from one insurance company to another they consider these people uninsured. Canada, England, Cuba and some other countries have a socialist health care system and it's horrible. The percentage of people in England that remove their own teeth instead of waiting to be seen by a free Dentist in England is over 6%. This was a recent Yahoo story. That's amazing that the supposed great government coverage is so wonderful people need to pull their own teeth. I have a lot of Canadian friends and everyone I know and everyone they know has a doctor in the US for when they get sick. God forbid you have a real disease. Most people in Canada that have a malignant form of cancer go from treatable to terminal before they are able to see an actual doctor. If you go to the Emergency room now it's free. They have to stabilize you and if they don't actually treat you at that hospital they bring you to a different hospital for your care. This is free universal health care. The US has the best health care system in the world. Not even Michael Moore gets sick and says quick bring me to Cuba.

Instead of just manipulating sound bites to push a socialist Democrat party agenda why don't you get some education in particular economics. If the FREE market disappears and socialist medicine takes over they will freeze doctors pay scale and lower this to the point where the best and brightest do something else instead of medicine. (This is already happening due to Ted Kennedy's creation of HMOs. That's right he loves to bash HMOs and how horrible they are though he is the person that created and sponsored the bill creating them.) Why would they spend at least 8 years in school to go into a low paying intership for several more years to rack up a significant debt for income that is below what they can do with a basic 4 year degree? They wouldn't and we won't have doctors anymore. When this happens the standards will drop significantly. Why liberals can't ask basic questions I don't understand. Use a little common sense. Ask what happens next and soon you will realize Liberalism, Socialism, Democrat party ideas and Communism don't stand up in the real world.

PS. The Republican party created the SCHIP program to bring health care to poor people they just don't want to expand it to people making over $80,000 per year. The Republican party created equal rights legislation and it was fought against by Democrat leaders like Senator Gore (Al Gore's father) and Klu Klux Klan Grand Dragon Senator Byrd which Democrats still support. Almost all of our Environmental laws were created by President Richard Nixon. The environmentalists should have statues of Nixon everywhere praising his work.

I agree with the sentiment. Why do republicans claim that government would do a horrible job providing health care while at the same time receiving government health care themselves??????

Even if we don't fix the problem by giving all Americans health coverage there has to be a way to make it more affordable. Perhaps regulating the insurance industry??? An insurance industry CEO doesn't need a 25 million dollar bonus at the end of each year at the expense of working Americans. We regulate power and water utilities because they are necessary for all Americans. Why isn't healthcare?

Socialized medicine or state medicine is a term used principally in the United States to describe health care systems which operate by means of government regulation and subsidies derived from taxation.

The criticisms that are often levelled against socialized medicine are are as follows:

Higher Taxes

Waiting times - Up to months in many cases.

Rationing - In any health system, there is a scarcity of resources that are available to provide everyone with the care they need, so health care resources must be rationed.

Cancellations by the doctors office with one reported case of over 48 cancellations!

Bureaucracy - The U.S. (with a semi-socialized model) spends more per capita on health than any other nation and more than twice as much as the country with the next highest level of spending (which has a form of universal health care).

Choice of Medical Doctor and Care

Capacity

Government role in health - Just what I want...more government control over my health instead of the doctor!

There is a reason.
Take a look at the soicalized medicine in England.
Where a little girl is going around to raise money for her dad's cancer medicine the "state" doesn't think it worth getting.
Canadaians coming here to see a doctor because they don't want to wait.

Can you name me a government program that helps people that hasn't made a mess of things?

Welfare a dollar of tax money taken from me and less than 10 cents makes it to the welfare mom is a good deal?

I am not willing to see this government take our health care system and trash it for the common good.

Lets fix the problem but don't let the government grap more tax money to solve a problem they can't solve.

I think the National Health care program we adopt under the new Democratic President should be also given to the congress and replacing what they currently have

We'd for sure get a real good program then

Not every American has a pension plan either....Senators work for the government, the government provides benefits for their employees.....I really don't see how this is an issue....

Not every American has a salary either - do you think since they get a salary, that everyone in the US should get a fat check from the fed? Oh wait, that IS what you crazy people think!

This is a mischaracterization.
They are getting insurance from their job...like so many of us.
Their insurance is not a socialized system. Everyone in the US does have Access to Health Care. The problem is the cost.

I don't want the government telling me what the appropriate course of care is, or holding up a procedure they don't deem necessary.

Think it doesn't happen? Ask a Canadian or Brit.

Ever seen Canada's health care system? They send their sickest patients to America for treatment. Canada doesn't have the best and newest medical technologies or medicines because there are no financial incentives for them to buy it.

In America, we have preventive care. HMO's learned a long time ago it is cheaper to buy the latest million dollar scanners than to deal with diseases after they have progressed.
