I am living with a roommate who is constantly talking about herself in negative ways, such as "I wonder if men think I look good". At first I was saying things like, "Of course they do". But then she started talking negative about her family and how no one loves her or ever will love her, and she does this every day. She walks around telling everyone about how horrible she is treated and cries and cries to me every night, then eats to make herself feel better. I've tried to suggest ideas such as going to counseling, reminding her how wonderful she is, but it seems like the more I encourage her, the more she complains and whines about no one caring about her and her life sucks. It has gotten to the point that I don't feel like with her, because she will talk about everything that is negative. It's like she is doing this for attention, because all she does is tell everyone. But at the same time, it's like she wants to stay in the same spot. How should I deal with this situtation?

Hmm, I'm wondering if your friend might be dealing with Clincal Depression. You should recommend she go see a mental health professional about her problem. I hope my answer helps.

Well, I know this may sound harsh, but, I would just tell her how you feel. Tell her she brings everyone down with her negative talk and if she doesn't want to seek help for her problems then you don't want to her about it. Sometimes all people need is the harsh truth, it may hurt, but, if you want to stop this behavior it's probably best to go this route. I hope this helped.

Stay Strong.
Stay Positive.

That girl is the definition of an attention-seeking brat.

She's noticed that you care and she's getting the attention.
She likes it so she's probably making all these things up to get people to feel sorry for her.

You should of relised that when she started complaining more and more.

The world's full of these pathetic fuxers!

I would just say "you shouldn't worry so much" and walk away. It's obvious that she loves attention. If she doesn't get the hint... maybe she really does need to seek some help.
