kind of a weird question, but just wondering what people have thought.
so do you think people are born with bravery or courage or is it something that is taught to us?

i was just thinking about some of the children in the middle east who are taught at a young age to be embrace martyrdom and how many are willing or end up doing it... as compared to the people who are raised with a western mindset....
so it makes me think that it is something that can be taught

i do believe its brainwashing to teach young children to strap bombs to themselves HOWEVER you still have to be taught to be brave and have courage to do that..

FYI- i am in no way advocating that any of that is okay....i'm trying talking about bravery and courage. that was probably a bad example, but an example none the less.

This is a nature vs. Nurture question. Bravery/Courage can be compared to racism. Are you born racist? No! This would definitely have to be a taught thing because of the environment you are surrounded by. Bravery/Courage are actions, actions are more learned than born with. Emotions are different.

Being brave comes very natural to some depending of course on what the situation is. In war your training helps you to overcome your fear and just do your job, and this is like most jobs that are dangerous after you have survived it a while it just becomes second nature to take on problems instead of running from them. I guess a little of both is really the answer but the process of becoming brave is not something the average person wants to be doing everyday.

You are confusing bravery with brainwashing. If you are convinced that what you are doing will be rewarded, even if in reality it won't, you are more likely to do it. What we call bravery is more of an act of survival or an angry reaction where reason and sanity has been thrown out the window.

You learn it on your own. If Superman had had kids, it wouldn't of meant that they were all brave...some may chose another path. Also, there are many forms of bravery. I believe everyone has some form of bravery in them they don't realize it, until a moment instirs them to use it.

i believe bravery is something instinctive depending on the situation. e.g saving a loved one from danger or depends on the way you brought up and your values. Your natural Character.

Neither. I think you learn to be brave on your own.
