Cody, You really wouldn't want to do it for the following reasons. Traditional racing go carts are made of very light weight materials. The wheels are magnesium the frames are mild steel and or chromoly thinwall tubing, the sprockets are hardened aluminum and the steering is simple mechanical steering arms with small lightweight Heim ends. The brakes are made to stop total weight of 300 lbs max.

Now there are places like Bicnell Racing products and Teo Pro cars that build off-set oval track carts that go like the dickens. If you are clever you could mount a high horsepower 2 cycle chainsaw motor from Stihl or Husqvarna that would push you faster than I should print here. Briggs and Stratton and Kohler make racing go cart 4 cycle motors.

The secret of a fast cart is the least amount of weight and a lot of horsepower. If you are really creative A small twin cylinder snowmobile motor complete with primary and secondary clutching and a jackshaft chained the the rear axle would scare you to death.

My dad and I had an aluminum cart once that had triple (3)Homolite chainsaw motors that was good for 80+ mph. at Watkins Glen race track way back in the 60's.

I don't know if that is a good idea. Don't get me wrong, I love power just as much as the next guy but slamming a car motor in a go kart is more then just a engine swap.

At a glance, that sounds great; light weight go kart with a car engine. However, a heavier motor also means you need to get better suspension or stronger chasis to handle the weight. a bigger motor also means the kart will go fast and that means you will need better breaks, bigger and better tires. Basically, everything else must be upgraded.

Let's say you put in a Honda4 pot engine, the engine weighs in easily 400-500 pounds. That thing will rip all your stock go kart componants to shreds the second you step on the gas. Since the engine weighs more than you (unless you are a REAL fat guy at 500lb), the engine will spin you and the go kart around its crank making minced meat outta you and make you look stupid in the hospital.

However, I do understand your point of view and desire. Try something less painful. How about checking out a motorcycle single cylender of 125cc or a double of 250cc?

Good luck...

well first of all... the motor would have to be air cooled like a old vw engine. I saw a guy make a gocart for his kid and the damn thing had a 850 cc harley motor on it. That thing did like 120mph. Then the kid ran off a cliff or somthing.
