Following the death of Marc Antony and knowing her kingdom was being overthrown by Octavian, who she also believed wanted to further, she died from the bite of an asp (snake) she had smuggled into her chambers. So technically, she committed suicide.

Supposedly after hearing about Mark Antony's death at the battle of Actium in 30 BC , she ceremoniusly committed suicide by being bitten by the asp, a snake held sacred in Egyptian religion.

I suppose that your teacher asked you this to trick you. It's not known how she died. It was a very mysterious death, but it's supposed that she died bitten by a snake. Many believe that she took the snake near her and it had bitten her, so it's supposed that she killed herself.

According to legend, she clasped an asp (a type of adder) to her breast and died as a result of the bite.
