No, they are marxists and understand very well that a nation divided against itself cannot stand.

Oh God, it's so clear to me now. Even when you think the President is making a HUGE mistake that are sinking our country into ridiculous debt, costing thousands of lives, burning diplomatic bridges and destroying our global credibility under questionable moral principles we should just go "..well..he's the president so ok lets give him all the money and resources he needs." Thanks. I can't believe I didn't get that before. By the way, will you feel the same when a political philosophy you don't agree with is in power? Sure, of course you will. You're all about unity.

*************
To be serious though, it is a problem of both sides. There is so much venom now that nothing can get done. Both sides need to swallow some pride and actually get their hands dirty together. We need to figure out a way to end this gridlock and start trying to solve some problems.

***************
I read the copy of the column and I disagree with it's premise. Looking past the fact that it is very self serving the fact of the matter is that it is your responsibility in a democratic society to make your feelings known when you disagree with your government. It is one of the major principles that our country is founded on. It's the reason we became a nation. I felt that this war was incorrect and misguided from the beginning and has become an even bigger disaster than I ever even imagined it could be and I will not sit back and just grab onto the notion that "he is the President and he knows best" while he sinks more and more troops and more and more moneya and resources into Iraq while raping the constitution at home and further villafying us in within the international community with absolutely no sense of accountability. It is my responsibility as an American to be critical when I think my government is behaving incorrectly. I'm sure you would have plenty to say if the tables were reversed as I'm sure Mr. (was it Sullivan) would. Is it a two way street? Was attacking the president a sin when Bill Clinton was president?

All liberal thought, morals, values, and policies are based on specific lies. Once you believe the initial assumption, they go on like what they are saying is the truth. But, in fact, they are justifying a basic fallacy in thinking. My favorite example is tax the rich to help the poor. There has never once been any liberal who ever made a speech where they didn't advocate higher taxes on the rich. This slows the economy and creates more poverty. They never see the second half of their taxation. it's enough to WANT to help the poor. In reality, they believed a lie which caused them to Steal someone Elses money and cause more poverty and misery. This happens with every liberal action. Belief in a lie and bad immoral outcomes. It is so pervasive throughout society that I have to believe it's a planned thing. Either liberals want to hurt people and cheat and steal and cause harm to all they touch, or, it's orchestrated by a power for evil beyond what they actually can see. Hmmmmmmm The father of all lies at work again?

You know ever day I grow more and more weary of the school yard bully tactics of morons like you (and yes I know that sentence will send you running to the YA Authorities and have me deleted and then blocked)

You never ask a real question, you never have the balls to engage in real political debate, instead you post insult after insult with no real propose other then to make your own small undersize male endowments seems bigger in your own mind

Liberals love their nation as much as Conservatives do, and any real understanding of American History and Politics would enable you to see that. Surely any one with half a brain would see the founding fathers and later President Lincoln as Liberals. America was lead though WWI and WWII by a Democrat Presidents, Democratic Presidents Truman, Kennedy, Johnson and Carter helped Republicans Eisenhower, Nixon, Ford, Regan and Bush win the cold war.

But of course History does not matter to you. Common sense does not matter to you. Engaging in debate like a real American does not matter to you. All that matters to you is using the ability to hide like a child on YA to say things you would never ever have the nerve to say to the face of any one.

Sad and sick especially considering that there are real issues to talk about and real problems facing this nation. This forum could be a way for intelligent men and women of all political stripes to have a decent conversation to be able to work in a citizens union to in order to express ideas. Instead because of people like you it is a forum for childish insults and nonsense which makes no sense and which makes a mockery of the democracy that you pretend to uphold and the country you claim to love

Let's see, when conservatives replaced "E Pluribus Unim" which meant "from many, one" on our currency in 58 with an endorsement of religion, it divided the nation.

When conservatives falsely accuse liberals of helping terrorists, it divided the nation.

I can go on and on citing more examples.

It seems that it is not the liberals that fail to understand the concept of "united we stand, divided we fall".

Let me guess - you voted for Bush.

People like you really don't have any ground left to stand on. I suppose that's why you've resorted to this most dog-eared page out of your playbook, yet again. Not that you ever had anything else!

Does this mean that you will give your full support to Hillary when she takes over the white house in 2009? and the new stronger democratic majority in congress?

Democrats supported GW after 9-11, even though on 9-11 GW's leadership was seriously missing. We supported GW's efforts in the war on terrorism, and got stabbed in the back and lied to. Most conservatives even feel betrayed by GW.

It is quite clear what that means. How about these. Do you know what they mean?

"Thomas Jefferson himself said: 'Dissent is the greatest form of patriotism."

“… it is absolutely necessary that there should be full liberty to tell the truth about his acts, and this means that it is exactly necessary to blame him when he does wrong as to praise him when he does right. Any other attitude in an American citizen is both base and servile. To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.” Theodore Roosevelt (1918)

"Dissent is the highest form of patriotism."
- President Thomas Jefferson

"It is the duty of the patriot to protect his country from the government.
- Thomas Paine

"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither."
- Ben Franklin

"If ever time should come, when vain and aspiring men shall possess the highest seats in government, our country will stand in need of its experienced patriots to prevent its ruin."
- Samuel Adams

"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."
- Edmund Burke

"This country, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing government, they can exercise their constitutional right of amending it, or exercise their revolutionary right to overthrow it."
- President Abraham Lincoln

"In the beginning of a change, the patriot is a scarce and brave man, hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds however, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot."
- 'Mark Twain'

"Patriotism means to stand by the country. It does not mean to stand by the President."
- President Theodore Roosevelt

"The President is merely the most important among a large number of public servants. He should be supported or opposed exactly to the degree which is warranted by his good conduct or bad conduct, his efficiency or inefficiency in rendering loyal, able, and disinterested service to the nation as a whole. Therefore it is absolutely necessary that there should be full liberty to tell the truth about his acts, and this means that it is exactly as necessary to blame him when he does wrong as to praise him when he does right. Any other attitude in an American citizen is both base and servile. To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public. Nothing but the truth should be spoken about him or any one else. But it is even more important to tell the truth, pleasant or unpleasant, about him than about any one else."
- Theodore Roosevelt

" "Throughout history, it has been the inaction of those who could have acted; the indifference of those who should have known better; the silence of the voice of justice when it mattered most; that has made it possible for evil to triumph."
- Haile Selassie

"Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter."
- Reverend Martin Luther King Jr.

I love America more than any other country in this world, and, exactly for this reason, I insist on the right to criticize her perpetually."
- James Baldwin, Notes of a Native Son

"So long as we have enough people in this country willing to fight for their rights, we'll be called a democracy."
- Roger Baldwin

Go ahead. Call these men "unpatriotic".

This is a very divisive question. Maybe it's the conservatives who don't understand "United We Stand, Divided We Fall".

My answer has something to do with a pot and a kettle. Your not even standing united, as you have so much hatred towards liberals. You forget that, above all, no matter what political affiliation we are all AMERICANS. That is what that statement means. not whatever bashing your trying to make happen.
