They just look awful, colors are hard to read, way too many images, especially big background ones, things often overlap. Why can't someone have a decent mypage page?

A lot of people don't really know what they're doing and just put whatever they like on their page. A bunch take way too much time to open up. I hate it when I go to add a comment and the page keeps moving bc more stuff is being loaded onto the page.

Poorly designed?

They are designed for their intended audience.
For most pages, the intended audience is the person who the page belongs to (and possibly a small circle of friends).

What they like, is all that matters.
No clue, No Problem.
MySpace is a toy, and a somewhat educational toy (at least for those who try to do page customization which involves more than cut and paste of a complete layout).

As for those who did the default design, maybe they were trying to make an educational toy.
By making it so ugly, with so many alignment and sizing issues, they increased the desire others would have to customize the page.

If I were hiring, and someone had on their resume that they had anything to do with the original myspace page design, I might think twice about hiring them.

People usually pick a crappy layout from a random site they found on Google. Then, when they get bored of it, they change it to another one without deleting all the code, so it ends up looking like an abomination of sh!tt!ness.

Another possibility is that they have no clue on how to use html & they try to design the profile themselves by patching together a bunch of different codes from different sources.

They really need to offer an html FAQ/tutorial on Myspace, or at least direct the users towards one.

Most people who create Myspace pages have no idea how to design web pages ... so they just throw everything they like up there.

Because, most people have no sense of what a good design is. >_< I have a friend who always uses these distracting photo-backrounds that no matter what color text you use you still can't read it unless you highlight the entire page. The colors clash, too many pictures, and just overall annoying. It drives me crazy. Myspace sucks anyway....

The base design is bad, then they let people that know nothing about html or web design have full control to make the bad design worse

most people dont know how to organize it, or what looks good together. they dont understand that big pictures that streach out your page arent cool. also they dont kno what colors complement eachother and which ones clashh.
