In baseball you had the yankees because of their success and getting superstars.

So how about the Pats? Everyone seems to hate them now. I see the pats still being dominant for the next 4-5 yrs if they still have Belichick and Brady.

So are they the evil empire of the NFL?

No because in baseball the Yankees can afford to throw money in any direction they please which is the reason alot of people dislike them

In football there is a salary cap so the Patriots are never at a bigger advantage than any other team. Sure some players have ben willing to take salary cuts to go to the Patriots but you really can't blame them

But as far as an empire goes. Football is a sport were no team stays dominate forevever. The Patriots are on top now. But in 3-4 years they will not be at this level, and it mak be 20 years before you ever see a team like reach that point ever agian.

Success is fleeting and the Patriots have done a great job of maintaining an excellent level of play over the course of 5 or 6 seasons. They came out of nowhere a few years back to win the Super Bowl and have maintained that level ever since. Really impressive but you can never predict when the pendulum will fall. You might think that Brady is still at the top of his game, the nucleus of players are still there and then poof, its gone.

Despite the Patriots recent DOMINANCE of the league, the difference between the great teams and the bad teams is really only a player or two, a step or two, a play or two. One day you hoisting the Lombardi trophy and the next you thinking about a top 10 draft pick in the next NFL draft.

All things being equal, I would not bet the Patriots remain ontop for the next 5 years or so. I would not be surprised if they did but I would also not be surprised if they disappeared from the playoffs all together in a year or more. Success is really that fleeting.

The Yankees are the Evil Empire because they just outspend the rest of the league and buy their way into the playoffs year after year. In the NFL it's a little different since there is a salary cap and tons of parody. The Pats are getting it done with talent and great coaching so it isn't fair to compare them to the Yankees.

Im not a Boston or NY fan, FYI.

That would be the Yankees. The Evil empire of the NFL is either the Raiders or Cowboys always trying to play outside the rules.

Nah. For so many years no one even recognized the Patriots as a good team-they were always the underdogs, even after winning a superbowl. Now that they're winning-and running up the score-and admist spygate-they're attracting all this negative attention and becoming "the bad guys". Unlike the Yankees, there are salary caps in football, so they can't be pegged as the team that "buys" all the good players like the Yankees.

They are NOT the evil empire, i.e. they have some really good guys, but they are the target of everyone in the NFL (hence all the cities and fans that oppose them) because they have been running up the scores and that ain't cool.

One of these days, the opposition is going to "take out" Brady at the knees on a late call when it is 38-3 and teach them that they need to bench their starters after they get comfortably ahead.....even after the Miami game.

Evil Empire? No. Chip on their shoulder? Yep. Spy Gate.

It's hard to be the evil empire when only the emperor is truly evil.

Then again, they do have Randy Moss...

And Brady did leave Bridget in the lurch...

But as long as they play in the same metro area as the Red Sox and the Celtics, they're only third on the evil list. And you never know when the Big Bad Bruins will resurface as the template for all hockey goon squads -- which they were, long before the Philadelphia Flyers.

wat do u mean Evil Empire ? every team has the same amount of money to spend, this is not like Baseball where the richest teams go on a shopping spree in the off season. NFL is all about coaching and being lucky sometimes, I dont think BElicheck would have the success he's had with Drew Bleedsomuch at the helm.

..ya know, ..people always hate the winners, thats the way sports fans are.
the pats broke a rule....big freakin deal. Like they're the only ones to have broken a rule.
Get over it.
The patriots are a damn good team and everyone knows it, and the only ones complaining like "soccer moms"....are the losers. This whole thing of running up the score is such B.S......NOT ONE SINGLE FAN out there would be complaining of the score if their team were in first place...and they know it. This is professional sports, not the pee wee league.
Evil Empire?? i dont know if thats a good name or not, ..but again, .no MATTER WHO is in first, people from opposing teams will find fault....period!
It'll be a great game this weekend, the colts are a great team as well.....very competitive....

they are worse, Yankees fans maybe be some of the worse fans in sports but as far as we know their coaches don't cheat, and they have about the same level of sportsmanship. Look at their fans responses they say big deal to cheating nice going to your parents to raise you without sportsmanship and not knowing right and wrong. I would be mad at my team if they cheated and not say big deal, that shows your lack of respect for sports. I'm guessing you're probably a Democrat too right? Just for the right and wrong part, they might have sportsmanship.
