Its been almost a yr, and the reason was this was a temp agency, and the assignment was about to end, but, I quit before the assignment ended.
I haven't been working for almost a yr, and want to collect unemployment, can I??

In NY you have to be working consecutively for the past 6 months I think in order to even qualify and unless you quit for a very very good and ethical reason you can't collect unemployment. Quiting because the assignment was going to end isn't a good enough reason. Even if you get on unemployment you need to be seeking employment and show proof of it or they will take it away.
If you haven't worked in a year I don't see how you can collect unemployment at all; if they sent you a check be aware that if they review your case and don't feel you are elligible they will make you give them back ALL of the money.
Thats nice that you have a newborn- get a job and have the father watch it or a friend or family money until you can hire a babysitter or daycare.
You will be on hold forever with unemployment-
maybe you should call social services if you need help

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but under California law you cannot collect unemployment if you leave a job. You have to be laid off or "let go" for certain reasons like downsizing. In addition, since you got the job through a temp agency, you still wouldn't be able to collect unemployment had you finished the assignment because you work for the temp agency, not the employer who contracted for services. Don't spend any money you receive from unemployment -- I can almost chisel it in stone for you that you'll have to pay back every cent.

Not a good decision.
Generally, you can collect unemployment if you quit only if there was a very good, compelling reason. For example, if you were sexually harassed and your complaints to management were ignored, or if they consistently shorted your pay, or for other cases of obvious wrongdoing by the employer.
Without that good reason, you probably would not get unemployment.
EDIT - be honest and be prepared to pay the check back if they deny you benefits.

You need to return the form. You will probably be denied unemployment since you quit.

In WV no you may not get it if it is proven you did something on purpose to be terminated.
So if you are unintentionally incompetent they pay if you quit you can't get anything here that is in WV.

most states have an 8 week exclusionary period if you quit.....and if you keep the check and they exclude you, they will get it back one way or the other, usually by holding any tax refund checks you may have coming.......
