Is discrimination based on religion or country of origin ever acceptable?

It does more than discriminate... It desecrates the constitution of the United States.

It's sad, that a president has to beg for permission to protect this country. If you don't have anything to hide, why worry that they might hear you say something? I don't think they are interested in listening in on normal conversations, just the ones that trigger terrorism. The Patriot Act does not discriminate against anybody. And I don't care who reads my comment.

No it doesn't, Not one place does it even menction religion or Country of origin. Its aimed at giving the Government the power to find and stop terrorists. And its a far cry from the war powers act that gave FDR far more in ww2.

No and yes. If 9/11 had been perpetrated by Catholics, you can be darn sure that Catholics everywhere would be persecuted. This just happened to be a minority group, so that makes it discrimination. What you call discrimination, I call common sense.

no type of discimination is acceptable but you have to be aware of risk factors and adjust accordingly. who is the most likely culprit? political parties do it everytime they bash the other side of the isle.
