Yes it is dedicated to his little boy, and yes it truly is a very sad song. Here is what happened; one day back in, I believe it was 1991,Eric Claptons little boy was playing by himself under the supervision of his nanny who had just for a minute or two was busy doing something else and not watching him, the little boy went to look out the window and well the window was open and he fell to his death. When I first heard the song myself I knew immediately that it was about his little boy, and to be quite honest, I cried my eyes out because of the heartache and helplessness that Eric Clapton must of felt at the time of his little boys death.

Connor died as the result of injuries sustained in a fall.

"Tears in Heaven" was Eric Clapton's tribute to his son. Yes, it is sad but is also uplifting.

It is really for his son who fell out of a window and died about 10 years back (or more)

Yeah it's true. When that song came out I was about six years old, but I remember my cousin told me that his son fell out of the window or something... My cousin was eight so... hehe. It is a beautiful song, though.

Sadly it is. His child was killed years ago. I believe he was 4 years old at the time. He ran out of a window..he was over 50 stories up in his mother's apartment. What a tragedy!

Here, in the mother's own words:
