Halloween is simply old english for All Saints eve, the next day (Nov 1st) is a christian celebration (catholic) called All Saints day. Saint is Hallow in old english.

Samhain, is also on the same day (1st Nov) and is a pagan event. They believe that the veil between the living and the dead is thinnest on that day. The witches and spirits are around on that day. So traditionally they would have bonfires, give gifts of sweets, and dress as spirits and witches so as to fool the real ones, and therefore avoid being persecuted by them.

The two celebrations have become combined, and given the seemingly Christian title of all saints eve (Halloween).

Not sure if that would make it a sin. I think it's a bit of fun. As long as you are not doing it with the belief of the pagans in mind.
After all, most of the traditional Chritian celebrations are watered down pagan celebrations that were borrowed by the Roman Catholics, Christmas day, Easter, both from far older traditions.

Halloween, in itself is not pagan, just the celebrations that have come to be associated with it.

Some christans have started a backlash about Halloween because the holiday started out as a pagan holiday in worishp of the devil. "Trick or Treating" was when people would go from house to house looking for virgins to rape and impregnante to up the chances of the anitchrist coming back.

Honestly though, that was soooo long ago. I seriously doubt the 8 year old in the Powerranger costume has anything on his mind other than candy and it is perfectly innocent.

Jesus wasn't actually born on Christmas Day...another hoilday the church adopted as it's own to try and bring more people into the fold. I guess thats a sin too.

No, of course not. Do you actually think that all those little kids are out there with evil intent? Do you think that by going door to door begging, they will grow up to be ax murderers, thieves, tax cheats, or Democrats? (Sorry, couldn't resist that one. Maybe it's because I celebrate halloween!)

Not at all. It's just fun, which I know is supposed to be bad. But I'm too old to pay attention to this brand new "scared of everything" or "It's all the devil" nonsense. Sounds like the Puritans. What's next? Witch hunts?

nope.
yes Halloween, or samhain, is a pagan holiday and no the history is not worshiping the devil and looking for virgins to rape and sacrifice. i got i huge kick out of reading that. it is a holiday of honoring our ancestors and other loved ones who have died, celebrating life and it is the pagan new year.
get your candy on!

Nope.

It started out as a religious holiday (the eve of All Hallows day).

I dont know, I sometimes wonder that too but just keep it clean for you and your family. Dress as non scary costumes and boycott and houses that are too "bad/evil" for you. Then get your eat on.
