i just moved house and i need a cooker, i prefer an electric one because the gas gives off some sort of grease and it builds up on all the surfaces of the kitchen(no im not talking about oil that gets on surfaces because i always clean after each cooking). But my friend says that electric cooker is much more expensive to use seeing that gas is cheaper. Does anyone know what sort of difference will be there on bills approximately, if we are talking £3/£4 pounds a month, then i dont care, however if its like £10 more with electricity, then i guess ill buy a gas cooker?
I appreciate your prompt replies. Thanks in advance

If you cook a lot (not just microwave things, but actually cook using pots and pans), you'll be much more pleased with gas than with electricity. The main difference is in heat control. A gas burner can be precisely controlled to give you instant full heat or shut off completely. An electric burner takes time to heat up and stays hot for a while after you turn it off.

Regarding the grease that you say gas burners give off, I don't know what you're refering to. I have had gas cookers for years and never experienced any more grease than when I had electric.

I moved into my new house 2 years ago and there isn't a gas supply here - and boy do I miss it! Cooking with gas is so much better, I loved my gas hob in my old house, It's a natural heat, it's cheaper to use and handy when you have lost your lighter!!!!

Edit: As for price comparison - i'm now paying lots more electric than I was gas and electric, I pay by token meter and I stick an extra £5 in a week than I did at my old place.
