Is there a different word for a boyfriend or girlfriend when you're (a) over 40 and (b) straight? When I refer to my boyfriend as my partner, people immediately assume I'm gay. (Not that there's anything wrong with being gay, I'm just trying to find a different word)

So.... whaddya think? Got a different word for it?

Boyfriend/girlfriend is fine. I don't really like the "fiance" term for some reason. I never used it when I was engaged either. So I understand what you're saying about "boyfriend". Sounds weird to ya, huh?

I'm 45 and introduce my guy as my boyfriend. I wouldn't know what else to call him that wouldn't sound stupid. This is my honey? My guy? My significant other??

Significant other. That's how my boyfriend and I refer to each other when we are in public.

You could call him your sweetheart ♥
Sorry, I couldn't come up with anything else. I never really thought of it like that until you explained...
