Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword."

— Matthew 10:34

If you are going to follow Christ, it will create friction in some of your relationships. Jesus made a very radical statement on this subject: "Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. For I have come to 'set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law'; and 'a man's enemies will be those of his own household' " (Matthew 10:34–36).

As a Christian, you will face opposition. You will create friction. People will laugh at you. They will get upset with you. When they are telling a dirty joke and you walk in just as they are getting to the punch line, you spoil all their fun, because the joke will need to be continued later.

You bring friction, but it is a good friction. Unbelievers are becoming aware of their lack of relationship with God. And it is your commitment to Him that is causing that. Ultimately, that temporary friction can bring about the ultimate unity when the unbelievers in your life put their faith in Jesus Christ.

Jesus was saying, "Do you think that I have come to bring peace on earth? No, I'm telling you that I have come to bring strife and division." Sometimes this means saying goodbye to friends. It means saying goodbye to things that would hold you back. It means no longer straddling the fence and trying to get along with everyone. It means that you can't live in two worlds.

in the bible in luke it says christ told luke to sell his cape and buy a sword. we are always gonna have wars, and we must fight for the lord. it also provides pretection for one's family. being a christian my self, I couldn't give a hoot what anyone thinks of me for being a christian. if they tell dirty joke's its just plain gutter talk, just ignore it. if you make people feel friction, good for you, your doing something right. God says to go out and spread the word. strife and division, is what the people do, go with God or with the heathen way, and thats right no two worlds, you are either with God or without, theirs always gonna be that division, and we must stand up for God, I have been doing it for ever, and I don't give a dam if I offend anyone, too bad, it America, love it or leave it, ONE NATION UNDER GOD, and I not affraid to say it to anyone's face either.

sounds like jesus from the bible wanted to start trouble... which we all know because of how many times the bible was interpreted over and over not much of what is in there is really truth. besides all the times the bible consistently contradicts itself. just go with ur heart thats where God sends his msg to all

hi,

I agree with thee,
it supports the truth about like in the young ruler He wanted to Jesus and also the world.... and Peter in his letter reminds us that:

21For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:

22Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:

23Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:

24Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. 1 Peter 2:21-24

Truth implies something that can be proven and agreed upon by many, so than to christians, I guess it is a truth if you think it is? I guess the rest of us are screwed!

i always thought the bible as an asumption of what would happin if certain things happened, in that case he was just simply saying that his followers would go to war with him as there leader.

That's what makes the bible such a good read. With enough rationalization it can be everything to everyone.

Yes. Christ is clear that He demands all of us, not just our hearts or our minds on Sunday.
