Turn off all the lights on the house and it seems like your not there. Don't answer the door if they ring.

I have taken my kids trick or treating and left a sign that let them know that we were not handing out candy.. Most people say to turn your light off and they don't come to your door, however I had to leave me light on b/c we were out with the children. My neighbors gave out candy and said that it seemed to have worked b/c only one person had actually went up to the door that didn't see the sign. LOL So I do not think it is rude its easier than having to say it time and time again or hear your door bell ring or hear knocking constantly. My Sign said Sorry LiL Ghost and Goblins, we are not handing out candy : Happy Trick or Treating!!!

No, it's not rude. A lot of people do not participate in Halloween. It's rude for people to come to your house and expect something from you, if you ask me.
Just turn off your porch light and keep the house dark. You will still have some persistent people who will ring the bell, but just don't answer the door and they will leave. I hate feeling like I have to hide in my own home, but more people accept nowadays that not everyone celebrates Halloween.

Trick-or-treating etiquette is to not knock on doors, unless their porch light is on. That being said, there are plenty of people that don't pay attention to that. So I've seen doors that have signs on them. They say, "Sorry, but we don't observe Halloween,' "Sorry, ran out of candy." Things like that. That is perfectly fine.

Well not giving candy can be rude.....
One person put up a sign saying
"Dont come here! No trick-or treaters allowed! No FREE Candy!"
Can you belive them?
Well the polite way is saying sorry i have no candy kids.
Or shut off all the lights on your house and pretending your not home. Or go out somewhere is best!

Just had some T and T's at the door no problem but it is the vandals that annoy me lobbing things at the windows damage to the car etc etc. These thugs have stolen halloween from the youngsters who are entitled to a little bit of fun.
best thing to do is to say no thanks, and close the door.

If you keep the lights off people won't come, other than that, a polite sign might work.

Keep the light off on the front porch. You could put a sign but that may make them knock anyway. Angry Kids may do it out of spite.

Take down any decorations, and turn off the porch light.
If that doesn't apply to you, then simply put a polite sign saying "Sorry! All out of treats!"
