Is the pleco still eating regularly? Labored breathing or "lazier" than normal?

If the pleco is eating and acting normal, but just as a "sore nose" i would just keep up the water quality and keep a close eye on him.

If its not eating and is acting lethargic and having trouble breathing it could be one of many number of things.

Are there any splotches, redness or can you see any parasites on the fish?

Try that site, it has a listing of different issues people have had with pleco's.

I am truly sorry to hear about this, but it doesn't sound good. 7 years is a long time to have one fish, you should be very proud of yourself for providing a great enviornment for your friend.

Keep your head up and just maintain water quality as much as possible. IF its in an infection or some "illness" typically water quality will help clear it out.

I am sorry to say this but i had one for five years or more and then died and i think his nose went white so he may have had his time mate.

Hate to say this, but I think your Pleco has about run his course. 7 years is really old.
