Liberals: What is a "NeoCon"?

I made a post that (in a nut shell) was bashing Hillary (no different than the Bush bashing posts made by libs).

Sure enough, some lib called me a "NeoCon", without knowing a thing about my political beliefs.

I think this is more proof that they just react emotionally and have no idea what logic is.

Uh, ONE liberal called you a NeoCon, and therefore all liberals react emotionally and are illogical?

I guess you consider over-generalization to be sound logic?

I think of the sort of "classic" conservatives of my youth -- in fact, you ocassionally hear the expression "a Goldwater conservative" to describe what 'conservative' used to mean.

NeoCons, are "new conservative" -- for example, are NOT interested in a balanced budge; often theocratic, rather than freedom-loving.

Mindlessly lumping all liberals into a category with the worst of liberals (also known as Straw Man fallacy) is a common technique of neocons.

BTW, the difference between the Bush bashing I do is, what I say is true, and he really deserves it. Hillary, whatever you think of her, is NOT a mass-murdering, torturing, raping, traitor to her country.

A NeoCon is a special brand of conservative that has abandoned the traditional conservative values of 'less government'.

Old school republicans were more like the Libertarians of today.

The term Neocon originated with 'The Project for a New American Century'. This organization is dedicated to the values of Global US Domination (Im not making this up, they state it on their website). The white house is closely tied to this organization and espouses it's values

Some prominent PNAC members are Bill Kristol, Paul Wolfowitz, Don Rumsfeld. The current cabinet is, and has been littered with these guys since Bush came into office. The PNAC roster is a practically a whos-who of Bush cabinet members.

Basically, poeple who continue to support Bush are aligning themselves with the Neocon agenda, rather than the conservative values that the Republican party used to be aligned with. So I think its fair to call Bush supporters 'Neocons'. It shouldn't be considered an insult, its just a statement of fact.

If it quacks like a duck, it probably is.

Neo con means neo conserverative; a person who holds a political philosophy similar to the one that now dominates the White House policy.

Here is a profile on one of the founding neocons, Norman Podhoretz. He's still very relevant to today's and tomorrow's politics because he's a policy adviser to Giuliani.

Here are some of his positions circa 1970, and as you may imagine, only the names and minor details have changed.
"Podhoretz and others lambasted the anti-war movement, extolled the virtues of military power, attacked "appeasers" like George McGovern, and condemned the supposed amorality of the counterculture and of liberal social policies."

I really don't like to cut and paste, but I am tired of explaining this.

Irving Kristol, the "god-father" and one of the founders of Neoconservatism, stated five basic policies of Neoconservatism that distinguish it from other "movements" or "persuasions"[10]. These policies, he claimed, "result in popular Republican presidencies":

1. Taxes and Federal Budget: "Cutting tax rates in order to stimulate steady economic growth. This policy was not invented by neocons, and it was not the particularities of tax cuts that interested them, but rather the steady focus on economic growth." In Kristol's view, neocons are and should be less concerned about balancing fiscal budgets than traditional conservatives: "One sometimes must shoulder budgetary deficits as the cost (temporary, one hopes) of pursuing economic growth."[10]

2. Size of Government: Kristol distinguishes between Neoconservatives and the call of traditional conservatives for smaller government. "Neocons do not feel ... alarm or anxiety about the growth of the state in the past century, seeing it as natural, indeed inevitable."[10]

3. Morality: "The steady decline in our democratic culture, sinking to new levels of vulgarity, does unite neocons with traditional conservatives". Here Kristol distinguishes between traditional conservatives and libertarian conservatives. He cites the shared interest of Neocons and Religious Conservates in using the government to enforce morality: "Since the Republican party now has a substantial base among the religious, this gives neocons a certain influence and even power."[10]

4. Agressive Foreign Policy: "Statesmen should ... distinguish friends from enemies." And according to Kristol, "with power come responsibilities ... if you have the kind of power we now have, either you will find opportunities to use it, or the world will discover them for you."[10]

5. National Interest: "the United States of today, inevitably ... [will] feel obliged to defend ... a democratic nation under attack from nondemocratic forces ...that is why it was in our national interest to come to the defense of France and Britain in World War II ... that is why we feel it necessary to defend Israel today."

Neocons are power hungry and imperialistic.
Bush, Cheney, Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld, and Bennett, among many others are neocons.
Many people do not know what a neocon is and many times use it as a slur.

Tony P. Got it right. The only thing I would add is, if you're really interested in what a neoconservative is, you can look it up on wikipedia. There's allot of information there. You're right. Your previous question doesn't necessarily mark you as a neocon. Just a moron. Right on R8derMik.

Just because one person on an answers forum that tends to get nasty anyway calls you a neocon, doesn't mean that you can make a generalization that ALL liberals are illogical and just react emotionally. Aren't you being a little hypocritical?

Why do you have such hatred for liberals anyway? Because they actually care about people?
