My grandfather just died. How long before his funeral will be held? I know it depends, but I'm just wondering.

Depends on how far people have to travel to attend. Usually though, it's done in 3 or 4 days.

I am sorry for your loss. My grandmother died a month ago. She died on a Saturday and her visitation was the next Tuesday, followed by the funeral on Wednesday. There were people who had to fly in for the funeral but they were able to get plane tickets since they told the travel agent it was for a funeral.

It really depends on the nature of the death.

When someone dies in a suspicious way, then there will be an investigation. Sometimes people will also request autopsies which also delay things.

But most likely, someone who had passed without incident will usually take about two days to prepare the body and make the arrangements.

Sometimes, if someone passes away in the middle of the week, the family will hold services on a Saturday or Sunday for the convenience of those who can't leave work during the week.

But funerals aren't as much for the deceased as they are for their surviving family and friends to seek comfort and closure.

Sorry about your loss....

It does depend on availability of the funeral home and what day of the week.

There will be a 1-2 day viewing and the funeral will be the following day from there
