Is it (1/2)x + 5 = x or 1/(2x) + 5 = x

You probably mean the first one since the second one will give you two solutions.
(1/2)x + 5 = x
5 = x - (1/2)x
5 = (1/2)x
5 * 2 = x
x = 10

x/2 + 5 = x
5 = x/2 (x- 1/2x = 1/2x)
x = 10 (x by 2)

isolate the x's on 1 side: 5 = x - 1/2 x , then symplify : 5 = 1/2x ,then multiply both sides by 2: 10 = x , or x = 10

1/2x + 5 = x

subtract 1/2x from both sides

5 = 1/2x

multiply both sides by 2

10 = x

1/2x+5=x;
times both sides by two: x+10=2x;
subtract x from both sides: 10=x.

1.subtract both sides by 1/2x
-1/2x+1/2x+5=x-1/2x
5=1/2x
2.multiply both sides by 2
5(2)=1/2x(2)
10=x
