No and that is what ruined my one sister
Our parents divorced when I was in 3rd grade and my sister was in 1st grade
Everyone felt so bad, we got away with too much
Some of it is minor but because of it, my sister is a functional illiterate. She is 43 and reads on a 3rd or 4th grade level.
She spells like a kid, like spells business as biznuss or choas as koas. We got way with too much and NOW she is suffering

Way too strict, but only with the girls. The boys could do as they pleased. This made us all (the girls) go a bit crazy the minute we were out from under their constant vigilance. One of my sisters became an alcoholic because she was so busy rebelling against their strictness and she used drinking and getting drunk as an excuse for her wild behaviour (she "wasn't responsible" for her actions if she was drunk, to her own mind).
Too much strictness is as bad as too little, and open favouritism is no help.

Mine were very strict but I guess things were different back then. Timeouts hadn't been invented yet and when I broke the rules my biggest fear was when dad got home. And I'd pray like heck that maybe mom wouldn't tell dad when he did get there. lol

my dad used to literally kick my ***. my moms favorite weapon of choice used to be a chancleta, a belt, or one of those plastic strips that connect that form hotwheels runways. my dad used to make, no, force my older sister to read the bible everyday between 6 and 7 for doing teenage mischevious things. Now that im older, i still see my mom make my younger brother and sister read in spanish and if they incorrectly pronounce spanish words, they get the wooden part of the broomstick across their forearms. once my mom slapped me from wall to wall for trying to surprise her after hiding behind the door cuz i was trying 2 b funny. she was like, "maldito" and i remember it like being in slow motion. the good thing about it is that i feel more of a person than many other people because i went through things that many other people didnt go through. the worst thing about it were the memories. Not so much the pain but knowing that ill always have that in the back of my mind everytime i go visit my parents.

my mum and my real dad were good parents; they were strict when they needed to be and nice otherwise. my stepfather was just straight out mean and rude tho, no matter what. that's why i got the hell out of there as soon as i could and haven't been home since.

not at all. I was very spoiled and lived in a house with no rules. It's probably why I'm still childish in a lot of ways. I have a hard time accepting 'no' for an answer.

Not so much when I was a child, but my teen years were rough and so were my parents. If I was one minute late coming home, then I was on restriction for a MONTH. I guess they had their reasons for doing it... or I was just that bad.
