Let there be x adult tickets and y student tickets.

5x + 3y = 4500
x+y = 1060
Get one term on its own:
x+y = 1060
y = 1060-x
Substitute that into the other equation:
5x + 3(1060-x)=4500
5x + 3180 – 3x = 4500
2x + 3180 = 4500
2x = 1320
x = 660
Put the value of x in one equation
660 + y = 1060
y = 400

So there are 600 adult tickets and 400 student tickets.

Number of student tix = s
Number of adult tix = a

Total cost of student tix = $3 * s = 3s
Total cost of adult tix = $5 * a = 5a

Eqaution 1:
3s + 5a = 4500

Equation 2:
s + a = 1060

So u gotta solve equations 1 and 2 simultaneously and u'll get "a" and "s". I dont have a calculator with me now but i hope this helps.

3x + 5(1060-x)=4500
3x +5300-5x=4500
-2x+5300=4500
-2x=-800
x=400 student tickets
1060-400=660 adult tickets

let x be the number of adult
1060 - x would be the number of student

eq 5x +3(1060-x) = 4500

now you can solve for x= 660

5(1060-x) + 3x = 4500

5300 - 2x = 4500
