Religion can only ruin a life if it is *allowed* to do so. We have free will (and I wish people would figure out that they have the ability to use it); however on the flip side of that statement, I also understand that it takes a great deal of courage and strenght to actually go against what one has been taught as a child.
Yes, the brain-washing that religions can do is heart-breaking to our gay freinds who are suffering from it. We can hopefully help them pull through it; but we *can't* deride their Faith. We can only tell them that God does Love them and that it's Man that Hates, not God.
Blessings, my child. We could change the Bible. It's Man that's not allowing us to do so.

The Bible is said to be God's words but we have to remember who wrote the Bible, was it God, no it was Man, when the Bible was written society was very sexest and corrupted and the people who wrote the Bible put in God's words but also decided to put in there own and that's why in any holy book you will find verses that go against each other or trying to say being lesbian or gay is wrong and the verses that say that would have been written by man and never said by God. I'm Christian myself and unlike most I question the Bible more then I follow it and one thing I question is if being gay is a sin why did God create gays and lesbians and why aren't they in the seven deadly sins. God didn't write the Bible, that's why it says being gay or lesbian is a sin.
I don't believe it a sin but many people do because they take every word of the bible too seriously.

You are comparing the fact that Hitler burned books to what our judicial system should be able to do? You need to bone up on how laws are made in this country, or did you not realize that the president of these United States is not a dictator. You ask, if Hitler could burn books, why can't our law makers change the Bible? Maybe you just got so caught up in your rant that you didn't realize what you were saying. Otherwise, you might have went on to say "why can't WE send all the christians who feel homosexuality is wrong to the gas chambers. After all, Hitler did it to the Jews. And if HE can do it, so can we! Here's your sign, dude.

Oh dearie, most decent practitioners of religion are just fine, as are most religions themselves.
It is only when you get one of those hypocritical "christians" that you mainly have a problem. You know the kind - the ones that use words like "abomination" and "Damned to hell" and "unnatural."
Of course, we all know that spreading lies and prejudice is what is unnatural and an "abomination."
Also, laws and the bible are completely different, at least here in the US. That's why we have separation of church and state.
Don't hold your breath expecting the bible to be changed any time soon. However, we all have seen many discriminatory laws get wiped off the books. Finally!

I agree to an extent. Many religions are very discriminatory toward the LGBT community. But it's important not to lump them all together. Some religions/religious people are very supportive of LGBT's. I don't think the law can change the bible, it's two different fields...church and state...but people just need to learn to be more accepting and more tolerant. My motto is live and let live.

I always can't stand when someone attempts to explain their view of homosexuality through their religion. This tells me absolutely nothing, other than that the person has no real opinion of their own. Furthermore, it usually presents an individual that will answer just about everything from a religious pretense and not someone who I can necessarily trust to be open-minded. It usually gives the impression hate will follow of anything outside of religious boundaries. No matter what, there comes times in people's lives where you have to close the book, and face the REALITY of what's in front of you...look deep to find your own morals of right and wrong and not simply assimilate what you've merely read and interpreted. Well, lets not go on to censorship, since the Bible DOES provide some historical insight.
Lets just find a way to TRULY separate church from state.
That judge shouldn't have based his decision on what the Bible said about gay people, their decision should have been based on "will this couple be able to take care of the child?"
I guess we need to hire more atheist and agnostic judges, huh?

The reason the bible hasn't change is because they want to have you believe that it was inspired by God. The bible was used to try to control people. I can say that growing up religion impacted me in a negative way because all I knew was that homosexuality was a sin according to the bible. I didn't want to go to hell. I tried to change my attractions by praying and I didn't change. I spent about 10 years of my life afraid, confused and depressed in the closet. I wanted to commit suicide but they say that's a sin too but yeah I think organized religion is at the root of the problem. People don't respect us cause they think we're sinning. It has to be one of the biggest misconceptions ever that the bible has made people believe.

I've had such bad experiences with religion, I try so hard not to judge. I am not perfect, and I can be judgemental too...but if I don't at least try not to be tolerant of other people, what have I learned from my experience? I've met mormons, christians, jews and protestants that have all accepted me knowing I'm transsexual. I still think irrationally and I still get the urge to say "those ***** [insert religion]'s" but if I do that and don't stop myself... I'm no better than the ones who ARE intolerant.

Nothing can change the Bible because it is the Word of God
Never heard of religions trying to ruin the lives of gays though. Some churches even have gay bishops these days.
