Are you asking what animals ARE extinct, or what are in danger of becoming so?
For extinct creatures, look as far back as the dinosaur, or further. Wooly mammoths, etc.
Creatures near extinction have included the Polar Bear, animals in North America such as Eagles (coming back), Buffalo are returning, but still not out of danger. The Wolf are returning in many areas. Still, with the expansion of people, many other creatures are at least stressed.
With the expansion of people, and the reduction of rain forests, other creatures are in danger. Some whale species are near extinction due to whaling.
Do a search for extinct species or endangered species depending on what it is exactly that you are looking for.

Endangered Species
Endangered Means There Is Still Time.
Hi and welcome to Endangered Species 2000! Currently, there are over 24,000 species that are endangered or threatened by human activities. Unless we do something quickly, they will disappear forever. Without them, Earth's ecosystem may very well crumble. By endangering wildlife, we are endangering ourselves.

Endangered Species
From our start in 1961, WWF has worked to protect endangered species. We're ensuring that the world our children inherit will be home to elephants, tigers, giant pandas, whales and other wildlife species, as well as people.

The Florida Panther is almost gone. Just a few left, and not enough genetic diversity to really be viable. :-(
And yet people keep on having babies..
