Wow Mike. That list is not just Joe Blow from Styxville giving his opinion. It is the leagues best talent evaluators.
Still think that Brodeur sucks? These guys watch hockey and evaluate hockey for a living. To say one of them might be off the wall is OK but to say the final tally is ludicrus is, well...ludicrus. If 150 guys rate someone 8th and 150 guys rate the same guy 10th, then he is going to fall into the 9 slot. Hard to question EVERYONE since they are talent evaluators.

Also Mike- One game- Luongo or Hasek? I might tend to agree with the bulk of the GM's. What did Luongo win, like one round EVER? Hasek is proven, albeit older. Seems to me, just last year, he went further than Luongo. Building a franchise- there is no question it is Luongo but one game, I'll take Hasek over him - actually Brodeur is my 1st choice.

Professional or Amateur?

The professional list is compiled using information provided by the 30 NHL GMs and the 277 amateur and pro scouts. Over 40 attributes are weighed.

#1. Joe Thornton
#2. Sidney Crosby
#3. Peter Forsberg
#4. Jaromir Jagr
#5. Martin Brodeur
#6. Niklas Lidstrom
#7. Jarome Iginla
#8. Dany Heatey
#9. Scott Niedermayer
#10. Ilya Kovalchuk
#11. Vincent Lecavalier
#12. Alexander Ovechkin
#13. Marc Savard
#14. Mats Sundin
#15. Martin St. Louis
#16. Joe Sakic
#17. Jason Spezza
#18. Dominik Hasek
#19. Eric Staal
#20. Marian Gaborik
#21. Chris Pronger
#22. Daniel Alfredsson
#23. Richard Nash
#24. Martin Havlat
#25. Marian Hossa
#26. Roberto Luongo
#27. Olli Jokinen
#28. Dion Phaneuf
#29. Paul Kariya
#30. Brad Richards

Mike, just because you think something, doesn't mean that it is true. With 307 people casting opinions, it is hard to be misplaced? In other words, in order to be placed inadvertantly high or low, would require collusion of roughly 100-150 people. You'd be hard pressed in to get more than 30 people to vote one way or another in the scouting world. So, Hasek is ranked 18th because scouts/GMs from several teams have placed him there.

Mike, All NHL GMs believe that Brodeur is the league's best goalie. Most NHL GMs would build a franchise around Luongo...mainly because you don't build a franchise around a 35 yr old goaltender. This list is compiled bi-monthly. The last list came out 9 days ago, all 30 GMs (including Dave Nonis) had Brodeur ranked 1st, 19 had Hasek ranked 2nd.

Why is Forsberg 3rd? The same reason he has 29 teams offering him a free-agent contract. 16 general managers (more than half) have ranked as the best player on the planet.........and a couple have him ranked in the 700s.

The people compiling this list know of what they speak.

Mike,
If I have to win a game right now....Brodeur, Hasek, and then Kiprusoff would be my first three choices for goaltenders. Why? They have more skill, and are less prone to mistakes in pressure situations. Hasek's a slow starter, once he returns from his hip injury, he'll be better (or so Holland promises me)

Yes, this would be an interesting list to see. I am quite surprised that Zetterberg isn't even the best Red Wing. I would put Lidstrom ahead of him, but Hasek??? Come on LITY, is that a halloween prank or what? How is Hasek 18th??? This isn't the 90s!!! The man is 42 years old! Don't get me wrong, I think he's one of the best goalies of all time, but right now he isn't even the best goalie in his division!!! 18th? That's just silly.

~

I am absolutely amazed with that list. I have a hard time believing professionals came up with that list. I don't know what the basis was for selecting players, I don't know what the criteria was. But if it is the list of the best players in the NHL based on their performance, then that list is completely ludicrous.

Why is Forsberg #3??? Can anyone explain that? He has an injured ankle, he might never play in the NHL again!! How is he #3???? If this was a list of greatest players over the last 10 years, then OK, he might be #3. But what has he done the last two seasons to show he is #3???

I will not even start discussing Hasek. That's just beyond me. I like Hasek, I like him more than most Red Wing fans, but putting him at #18 is absurd.

The thing that comes as the biggest surprise to me is the best goalie in the league being in the 26th spot. Behind Hasek. If those "professionals" are trying to say that Hasek is a better goalie than Luongo, well, I'm just at a loss for words. Can you please explain how these players were chosen? If this list is based on performance, and talent, then there is no way in hell Hasek is rated above Luongo. Luongo is the only reason the Canucks made it to the playoffs last year. How can anyone even begin to argue that Hasek is better than Luongo?

IMO, Jason Spezza is a much better player than Marc Savard, Mats Sundin, Martin St. Louis, Joe Sakic or Ilya Kovalchuk.

~~

LITY, can you tell me why ANYONE would say that Hasek is a better goalie than Luongo? There are at least 10 goalies in the NHL that are better than Hasek right now. I'm not talking about a "build around a goalie" scenario. I'm talking about if you need to win a game. Say there is one game, that you need to win, just one game, who would you rather have in goal, Luongo or Hasek? 19 GMs would take Hasek over Luongo in that scenario? That is simply absurd.

It's amazing how many prepubescent punks there are out there who think it's funny to be a troll. Sad commentary on who the world is being left to isn't it?
