The Sims 2 - Hocus Pocus Ritual?

What is the 'Hocus Pocus' Ritual, and how is it done? I heard that it makes ghosts on the lot more active, but at first I didn't believe in such a thing. It involves... a BBQ? Does it require an expansion pack? Thanks-

All that I've heard is you use the grill between midnight and 1:00 a.m. I've never tested this, so I don't know much about it either.
