I see her 4 days a week and she wants to know how they were but I don't want to seem unappreciative of the jesture. But I also don't want her to think I enjoyed them because she'll no doubt cook them for me again. We've known each other for about a year now and she's a really nice person but I don't want her to ever cook for me again. How can I say that w/o being rude.

I had previously mentioned in one of our conversations that last week how much I love home-made tamales and how long it had been since I had some. I didn't think she was actually going to make some and give them to me. And the thing is she says that she sells them and people buy them. But when I took the tamale out of the casing it literally fell apart and looked like mush. I still tried to eat it but they just were not good or flavorful to me.

You could just tell her that you do like tamales, then go into some detail of how the ones YOU like are made. Just let her know that, that is the way you have always liked them, that is what you are use to. It's not that you didn't like her's, you just prefer them a different way.

Well, honesty is really the best policy...but you also don't need to say more than needs to be said. This is what I would do...the next time she brings up the tamales, tell her that you really appreciated the gesture and that you did enjoy the tamales, but tamales in general are just not what you remembered them to be...your tastes have changed a little bit over the years and now you don't care as much for them.

don't say anything... when she cooks them again take one home and save it, give it to her for lunch the next day and if she says she does not like it then tell her where it came from!
Or just be honest and tell her you don't prefer that brand.

You could do what I do when my friends put me on the spot like that... I ask them, "do you want the truth or do you want me to sugar coat it for you??" they usually retract the question.

Its better to be truthful than being someone who just says things to make the next person feel better. AKA phony!
