Im so sorry for your loss, I know what you are going through at this moment. My mum found this in a book, and my nephew read it out 6 weeks ago at my Dad's funeral.
When day is done, a figure turns and says a last goodbye,
Although we cannot understand where they must go, or why,
But as they leave our sorrow and our sad tears far behind,
they move on ahead to see a peace that every soul must find,
for now they sail a different ship upon a different sea.
A voyage filled with love and hope and new discovery.
And when the journey brings them to a distant lighted shore
They'll be greeted by outstretched arms of those who've gone before.
And people they have known and loved and voices from the past
will be singing out the welcome news that they are home at last.
We have no idea who wrote it but we all think it is beautiful.

sorry about your loss... here are some poems some short and long. NANA You were a bright spark, That shone like a star, You touched so many hearts, Now we are apart, Memories of you are kept locked in my heart, At least you’re in no more pain, One day we’ll meet again, Through your life, You’ve made so many people happy, As you were a cheerful, warm-hearted lady, Now that you are gone, We all have to try carry on, Even though you’re an angel, With you not here with me is really painful, When I think of you, I remember all the things you used to do, I miss you nana, More and more, I just can’t stop the tears that form. SAY GOODBYE Do not weep for me Death has finally set me free Do not wish for my warm embrace Wipe those tears from upon your face For my soul floats through majestic splendour Forever watching over you with a love so tender Hand in hand I wave one last goodbye As my spirit soars across the sky so high Angel Nana Have we told you how special we feel Do you have any idea how big of a miracle you are As we grew up we had you as a best friend Someone we could always count on Your our Nana . . . Our sweet Nana Mommy told us one day you'd be in heaven It's what happens when people grow old She said while on earth your our grandma But when God takes you there's a new name your called Angel Nana . . . Sweet Angel Nana A bell will ring and then you'll have your wings You'll fly and protect us where ever we go When special things happen that we can't explain Who did them is something we'll know Angel Nana . . . Sweet Angel Nana Wind chimes and rainbows The first flowers in Spring Will always bring memories of you There were so many wonderful things That as a grandma you found time to do. You sang us to sleep with lullabys Baked us cookies and chocolate cake You taught us to be polite with words That all good grandchildren should say . . . Like please and thank you In Winter you made us bundle up warm On hot Summer days you took us to the beach In the park in the Fall we played in the leaves You lifted us up at the fountain to drink. I think in my heart when God says you have to go In a way I'll be happy not sad Because then all the other kids would get a chance to know The wonderful grandma that we have had Because you'll be an angel Our Sweet Angel Nana . . . .

If the children are very young get the the Debbi Gliori story No Matter What to read. It is a rhyming story which ends with
What happens when I'm dead and gone .... love's like starlight love goes on.
but I like the Leo Marks poem The Life that I Have
The life that I have is all that I have and the life that I have isyours
The love that I have of the life that I have is yours and yours and yours
A sleep I shall have, a rest I shall have, yet detah will be but a pause
the peace of my years in the long green grass is yours and yours and yours

W. H. Auden
Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.
Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message He Is Dead,
Put crepe bows round the white necks of the public doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.
He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last for ever: I was wrong.
The stars are not wanted now: put out every one;
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun;
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood.
For nothing now can ever come to any good.

I liked to walk with Nanna, she took small steps like mine.
She never said, “let’s hurry-up!”, she always took her time.
I liked to walk with Nanna, her eyes saw things like mine.
Shiny stones, a fluffy cloud, stars at night that shine.
People rush their whole day through, they rarely stop to see.
I’m glad that God made Nanna’s unrushed and young like me.
MY NANNA
Nanna said she’d give me anything
Even the Moon that’s in the sky
“But you cannot do that Nanna,
‘Cos the Moon is up too high!”.
When I went to Nanna’s place
I would have so much fun
She'd let me do whatever I want
Then whispered “Don’t tell Mum!”
I climbed all over Nanna
And she didn't even care
She gave me lots of hugs and kisses
And ruffled up my hair.
“I love you Nanna, very, very much
You always found the time
To play with me the way you did
Nanna, I’m glad you were mine”
I am sorry for your loss. I just think that a poem should focus on your children's happy memories.

Firstly sorry youve lost your mum, hopefully you are finding solace in your children.
I think the best thing would be to ask them to write down things about your mum, then put it into short sentance. peoms dont have to rhyme, I am guessing it wont be read out by the children, so maybe something like this...
memories of nana
I love the way she kissed me goodnight
i love the way she always had sweets
she gave the best cuddles
she always had a smile for us
nana never told me off when i was naughty
I loved going to the park with nana
etc etc
Those sort of things reflect what all kids feel about their nanas, and it sounds much better written in the simple language of a child. Maybe sit down with them and ask for some favourite memories, write them all down and shorten it into an easily readable piece.
Hoped this helped, made me think about how much i value my mum, so sorry for your loss.
xx
