1. You start by auditioning for local community theatre productions and school plays to gain experience and confidence as a performer.
2. You sign up for acting classes. Start with a basic Intro to Acting and follow with a Scene Study class. If you are interested in musical theatre, add voice lessons, ballet and tap to the mix.
3. You read books about the business side of acting and on overall view of the industry. Try Acting for Dummies.

That's it. You're not ready to begin looking for agents, taking professional headshots or auditioning for professional productions yet. So, start with the above and in a couple years when you’ve built up a decent resume, have some good training under your belt and have knowledge about the industry, you’ll know what your next step should be.

1. Go to any local drama clubs. They usually put on a panto.
2. Audition for any plays/panto's etc. in the area. Even if it's just background.

Once you have been doing this for a while, a good idea is to get an acting agent. They will help you find good roles for your type of acting.

Be on the look out for auditions - newspaper and magazine articles and the internet. They will tell you what thecharacters are like and requirements. You will usually need to send a CV with all your lists of acting roles and any drama schools you have been to.

Good luck!

It is also helpful to have a mentor to keep you from getting scammed along the way and to help you make wise choices about schools, reading, and so on. Read my profile and write me at my aol address for more info.
